Changing the DNS server on the Cisco
SBCS (UC520) solution using CCA
Introduction
This document goes over how to change the Domain Name Server (DNS) on
the SBCS
system using Cisco Configuration Assistant (CCA).
Background on DNS servers
A DNS server is used to resolve domain names or URLs (eg.
http://www.cisco.com)
into
an IP address that can be reached by networking equipment such as
routers (eg. UC520).
If the DNS server defined is incorrect, unreachable or not defined,
then the most common
symptom seen is that PCs behind the UC520 cannot access any websites
using a browser
(Note: there may be other reasons why web sites are not accessible,
DNS server is one of
them). For more information, please refer to DNS server.
Configuration
The UC500 factory default configuration has a defined DNS server
(63.205.35.55) which
has IP connectivity issues and also may not be the most optimal for
all deployments.
Hence removing this pre configured DNS server would be a necessary
step for most
deployments.
Based on the WAN IP addressing setup and type of WAN connection:
a. If the WAN IP address is a static IP address, go to step A
b. If the WAN IP address is dynamic IP address using DHCP, go to step
B
Prerequisites:
a. Make sure you are on a PC behind the UC520, have launched the CCA
tool and can
connect to the UC520 using CCA.
b. If you are unsure about the IP address assignment (dynamic or
static) and / or the
DNS servers to use, please contact your ISP (internet service
provider) for this
information.
One option to find out is to paste the below URL into a browser
