If you remember, We received 16k from Parks Partners when we were in
the original fundraising phase of the dog park. Parks Partners is a
non profit organization that serves ALL of the parks in Universal
City. It used to be a very active organization, but as the years went
on, the members retired or moved away and the organization went
"dormant". Jerry Geyer has been over PP for many years and has been
holding on to it, hoping someone would eventually take it over.
Jerry's retired and had some health issues. Now he is
under his wife's orders to quit.
I have been toying with the idea since last year about taking over
Parks Partners..I have been reluctant because I, myself, am not
proficient on non profits enough to take this on, but over the past
week have found FABULOUS support who will help me with this.
I'm going to regress a bit here. At our last dog park meeting in Jan.
I stated I felt the work had been done on the dog park. It is now in
the hands of Randy and Public Works. The only thing the committee
would have to do is raise funds to keep the park maintenance up. I
have been saying to friends for several months that since the dog park
doesn't need that much money now, I wanted the wine tasting to
continue. I always had the thought that the BARK, PARK & WINE had
enough momentum to continue and possibly fund Parks Partners and could
help ALL of the parks in Universal City; the dog park, the new
Veterans Park, eventually replace old playground equipment..etc.
Now it seems that is where I'm going to be putting my energy. It is
not final yet, but I am confident it will go through.
Bev Volle and Judy Schindler also will be coming to Parks Partners.
This years BARK, PARK & WINE will be under the name of PARKS PARTNERS
and will broaden the interest of all, not just dog park people. It
will still benefit the dog park and take care of it's maintenance, but
other parks will benefit as well.
I have spoken with Randy at Public Works and have his complete
support. He also knows that through
Parks Partners we will fund the dog parks maintenance, as we promised
when the dog park
was built.
If it turns out that the dog park needs more lighting, the request
will have to be made through Parks Partners for
funding.
There were several new people there who are interested in joining the
dog park committee.
They took down this email address and will contact you about having
another meeting.
