XP and Ubuntu dual boot on PATA/SATA

Hi,
I have installed Ubuntu on my PATA disk and XP on my SATA. Only after
doing this, I got to know that i cant have my PATA disk as the first
boot device. I am now stuck as I cant boot Ubuntu.
Is there anyway I can modify boot.sys or the boot.ini file where the
windows bootloader shows the two OSes.

I have no idea. Have you asked about this on the Ubuntu Forums at
ubuntuforums.org? If not, then try there because there are people on
there with more experience.
