And I've tried a handful of 'em.
I keep trying to switch people over to ubuntu all the time. I think
that a marketing campaign based on gstreamer / wincodecs32 would be
great because a lot of people get turned off linux / ubuntu when they
try to play an mp3 for the first time and it says "no".
they don't read that it says "no, it's not legal. if you really want
to do this install this and that". they just see that it says "no"
and don't care why but know that if they were using windows it would
just say "yes".
I think people who know say "you should try ubuntu" and people
probably do try ubuntu but don't buy in because of the lack of out of
the box mp3, wma, wmv, mpeg, etc... support. If they knew that they
could install the support with a couple clicks pretty easily then
they'd be more likely to switch.
