Hi there,

I am wondering if there is a usable desktop-search tool in ubuntu 12.04?
I installed tracker, but ther are no configuration tools integrated and
I dont no how to start the indexing. Or what ist the prefered solution
for this under unity?

thanks in advance,

Kai

If catfish is available under unity you might want to try that. It's
a front end for 'find' and 'locate'.

That is really bad news. Recoll is a MUCH better search app than
others, and a key tool I use. If unity screws it up, that would be,
for me, a strong reason to abandon unity. Does unity screw up other
good apps too?

How so better? Can it do specified proximity searches[a very powerful
search tool], or multiple restricted file types, or restricted
subtrees - just to mention a few of the capabilities of recoll? Beagle
had a nice simple interface, but I much prefer recoll for large,
complex, serious searches where you want to get something without
having to go through a lot of extra junk manually. No eye candy in the
recoll interface, though - just a lot of search power...

And, the developer is also interested in capability. I suggested
adding proximity searching, and he did. So if there is another 'power'
feature you might like, let him know. You might be able to improve it
even more.
