Dear All,

After installing Ubuntu 11.10 and installing CCSM, I discovered that changes I make to CCSM settings take no effect what so ever. I have the DELL XPS 14z with Nvidia GeForce GT520M with 1GB video memory, Nvidia Optimus graphics switching technology. Any ideas what's going on ?
Thank you.

Are you possibly running unity-2d rather than the 3d version? If,
when you hover over the launcher the popup names have a crisp white
border you are using 2d, if they are soft then 3d. To switch, click
the cog above password field on logon screen, but if your graphic
hardware will not support 3d then you get 2d even if you don't select
it.

Probably you are running Unity 2D and not Unity. Have you installed
the proprietary NVIDIA driver, with System Settings->Additional
Drivers?

rather doing that run "/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p " command in terminal and see what comes out ,

if all is "YES" your hardware is capable to run 3d version ..

Just mentioning that that is not infallible:

$ /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p
OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) 945GM x86/MMX/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 1.4 Mesa 8.0-rc2

Not software rendered: yes
Not blacklisted: yes
GLX fbconfig: yes
GLX texture from pixmap: yes
GL npot or rect textures: yes
GL vertex program: yes
GL fragment program: yes
GL vertex buffer object: yes
GL framebuffer object: yes
GL version is 1.4+: yes

Unity 3D supported: yes

But I can't run unity 3d. The reason is that I have dual monitors and
the chipset only supports 3d up to a max total width of 2048, a fact
that unity-support-test is not aware of.

OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Sandybridge Mobile
OpenGL version string:  2.1 Mesa 7.11

Not software rendered:    yes
Not blacklisted:          yes
GLX fbconfig:             yes
GLX texture from pixmap:  yes
GL npot or rect textures: yes
GL vertex program:        yes
GL fragment program:      yes

Warm regards

I think that is a different chipset. What screen resolutions are you using?

Yes, that is a different chipset. I wasn't asking for help by the
way, I know the Intel 945 family will not support 3d at greater than
2048 width, just pointing out that the test software is not
infallible.
