Hi,

I am new to ubuntu OS trying to upgrade from the version 14.04 to 16.04.
While upgrading ubuntu version 16.04, it is showing failed to fetch the below path.

W: Failed to fetch http://www.rabbitmq.com/debian/dists/stable/main/binary-amd64/Packages  404  Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://www.rabbitmq.com/debian/dists/stable/main/binary-i386/Packages  404  Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/sonar-pkg/deb/dists/trusty/main/binary-amd64/Packages  404  Not Found
W: Failed to fetch http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/sonar-pkg/deb/dists/trusty/main/binary-i386/Packages  404  Not Found
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Let me know how to solve this issue.

Dear Testing QA,
The errors are thrown by third party repositories. Use do-release-upgrade command to do an update. This will disable all third party repos before update. You can enable them once the update is complete.

With Regards,

The command is working for Admin user.

Third party sources are disabled but still not got upgrade.

Now showing below error :

Calculating the changes

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.

"sudo apt-get dist-upgrade"
Whether this command will completely upgrade the latest version.

I have run this command, it is showing auto-remove dependencies.

I can't see the latest version. :(

This command won't update to 16.04.  It will solve the unmet dependencies which is preventing the update.  After running this you to try running do-release-upgrade and see if the issue is resolved.

This is caused by one (or few) of the packages which are already installed on the system, which gets broken with this update. Please check the following files regarding the details of Broken packages:
/var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log
/var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log

Running a grep command can detect the Broken packages :
grep Broken /var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log

Alternatively, install synaptic package manager, filter the packages using installed(upgradable) filter  to see any package is left out. Also mark all the updates from synaptic and check if any of the packages are broken (using the broken filter).

Yes, this I have earlier too.
In my system Broken packages list is so big. P.F.A

If I am not wrong, this have to remove one-by-one. That is very time consuming and manual work.

Is there any other way to remove those Broken packages.

I am thinking to install 16.0.4 from the scratch, is it possible? For that whether I have to remove 14.04 version?

Use synaptic and select all under broken filter. No need to do one by one manually.
