Continual Sound Problems in Ubuntu

I'm sorry in advance for this:

But I am tired of trying to figure out why there's no sound in Ubuntu. Every few months now matter what distro I have, what version I have, the sound mysteriously goes away.  i try everything I can see to do on the web. Sometimes it's fixed, sometimes it's not and I switch distros and then it works until it doesn't.

Can't someone just fix the sound?
