Hi I upgraded to Jaunty from latest Intrepid, modem was working, tried
installing the Jaunty package now modem not being found when using
wvdial or gnomeppp.

'Cannot open /dev/536ep0: no such file or directory'

I tried the manual steps in the Last Resort web page in /usr/share/doc/
intel536ep-jaunty. Everything worked fine, though in the /etc/udev/
rules.d/ directory there are a few files:

10-intel536.rules
10-local.rules
10-local.rules.Intel536.backup

I am running on kernel 2.6.28-13-generic

Thanks,
Gerry

I contacted Gerry on skype and it appears that he was able to resolve
the problem by linking his programs to:
/dev/536ep0

instead of
/dev/modem

Apparently /dev/modem does not exist, though it should. If anyone
could take a moment to test this out and report, that would be great.
Just let us know if anything is listed when you run:
ls /dev/modem
