I bought a HP photosmart c4385 - its wireless, USB or ethernet. I've
got it set up wirelessly and access it from Ubuntu and the kids access
it via Windows XP. Was about $120 from Office works.

I checked it out at http://www.linuxprinting.org

You can get this machine to work, see:

http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Brother-DCP-115C

Most HP printers work out of the box.

If you need a multifunction printer, a currently available model is the HP Photosmart C5280 which works out of the box in Hardy Heron except for printing printable CDs.  The latter function can be made to work and that is currently being worked on by two list members.

The current price of the C5280 is $145 off the shelf from JB HiFi stores and that price can be negotiated downwards from other retailers.
