i waited now 20 minutes until ubos was installed which worked with host *,so i could reach ubos by ip address. but nextcloud shows no app store (categories) so that i couldn't install calender and contacts apps which is a problem of nextcloud. perhaps admins better update the version. installation didn't work with installed host "ubos-raspberry-pi2.local/": browser said "server not found".entering ip instead of ubos-raspberry-pi2.local/ shows a ubos site "404: not found. sorry, the website you are looking for is not here. this may be because the website is currently upgrading. try again in a few minutes.thank you for your patience." so ubos currently only works with * host and dns host. but installed with dns you can't reach ubos locally.
has anybody made the same experience ?

i removed ubos from my sd-card and wait for the next version. i can't use nextcloud either because i miss the app store. so i can't install neither the calendar nor the contacts app which i need most. i think the admins will inform about the new version of ubos by rss-feed or twitter. then i'll give ubos a new chance. the idea of ubos is pretty good. i'd really like to use it instead of my raspbian with owncloud.

Both calendar and contacts app work just fine. You only need to install them the UBOS way, as documented here [1]

Did you fix your networking problems?

shall i insert both together separated by comma, for example:
nextcloud-calendar, nextcloud-contacts

or one after the other? for example:
first assessory:
nextcloud-calendar
enter
second assessory
nextcloud-contacts
enter

no, my networking worblems are not fixed: when i choose * i can reach ubos and the installed nextcloud by my local ip-address, for example 1234.5678.910./nextcloud. when i choose ubos-raspberry-pi2.local, i can't reach nextcloud neither by ip address nor by ubos-raspberry-pi2.local/nextcloud. after installing ubos by ubos-raspberry-pi2.local and after entering my ip-address (without the whole path to /nextcloud), there ist only the 404-site i described before although nextcloud is installed. when i choose a dns-address with letsencrypt, i can reach ubos by dns-address/nextcloud but not by local ip. i need both: dns and local ip because i don't want to depend only on a dns-provider.

another problem is that nearly every second time i try to install ubos, the system tells me that it's not able to download nextcloud because there might be a server problem. the url doesn't seem to be valid. so i stopped the installation now and i will try ubos with the next release.

Trying it out seems to be an easy way of answering this question :-)

I asked earlier. If you say “ubos-admin listsites” after the installation, are you certain that the printed-out hostname is, character by character, the same as what you use to access the site over http?

after installing ubos by ubos-raspberry-pi2.local and after entering my ip-address (without the whole path to /nextcloud), there ist only the 404-site i described before although nextcloud is installed. when i choose a dns-address with letsencrypt, i can reach ubos by dns-address/nextcloud but not by local ip. i need both: dns and local ip because i don't want to depend only on a dns-provider.

If you want the same site reachable through two different hostnames and/or IP addresses, you need to specify * as your hostname.

AFAIK, letsencrypt does not issue certs for anything other than fully-qualified, official DNS names reachable over the public internet.

Regardless of certificate authority, the assumption of certs for securing HTTP is that they are issued to official DNS names only. If you don’t have / use one of those (only), then you will, at best, end up with browser warnings. E.g. use self-signed.

Note that none of this has to do with UBOS.

Yes, they serve perfectly fine official DNS names. You might be confusing dynamic DNS and mDNS — the latter is an entirely different beast.

i installed ubos again and created the host ubos-raspberry-pi2.local. the first app was wordpress although i don't need it (not nextcloud first because normally the download of nextcloud interrups). i did this as a test. the installation was ok. as path i chose /blog. the second app was nextcloud. the installation was ok. as path i chose /nextcloud. as accessories i chose and listed: nextcloud-calendar nextcloud-contacts. the installation was ok.
after deploying the installed site was "sae_several_numbers" at http://ubos-raspberry-pi2.local/
ubos-admin listsites says:
Site: ubos-raspberry-pi2.local (sae_several_numbers)
Context: /blog (a_several_numbers): wordpress
Context: /nextcloud (a_several_numbers): nextcloud nextcloud-contacts nextcloud calender

but when i put in my browser
ubos-raspberry-pi2.local
ubos-raspberry-pi2.local/blog
ubos-raspberry-pi2.local/nextcloud
or i insert the local ip
or i click on the device in the backend of my fritzbox

it looks for a while, then changes to http://www. and: there is no site. please have a look at the added images.

The mDNS hostname is ubos-raspberry-pi2.local, not www.ubos-raspberry-pi2.local. So if you try to access the latter, it will fail because it does not exist.

Now some browsers, when they cannot access example.com, will try to access www.example.com, but that’s a behavior of the browser, not of UBOS or anything else. As you saw, that won’t work.

So the question is: why can’t your browser find ubos-raspberry-pi2.local? And my suspicion would be to blame it on Window, as it seems that that’s what you are running. Note the disclaimer in the UBOS docs: [1]

Access should work on all operating systems and types of devices, except on older versions of Windows if you do not have iTunes installed. (Yes, this sounds strange. Basically, Microsoft in the past has not supported mDNS, but Apple does, and Apple adds it to your Windows PC as soon as you install iTunes. Apple calls this feature Bonjour.) So if you are unlucky enough to run an older version of Windows, please install iTunes there and mDNS resolution should work.

And re Nextcloud downloads, I can see in the server log that there are lots of incoming requests for a file that does not exist — Nextcloud 12.0.0-1. What does exist is Nextcloud 12.0.3-1. Is it possible you aren’t executing the

ubos-admin update

as soon as a new installation has completed booting, and before you say “ubos-admin createsite”?

I am noticing that reality might have diverged a little from the UBOS documentation … emphasis on “may”. Let’s try to find out.

Can you log into your RPi, and say “hostname”. This should say “ubos-raspberry-pi2” but it might not. Let’s assume it does not, but instead it says “foobar”. Can you see whether you can reach “foobar.local” on the network?

Also it’s worthwhile to check that “systemctl status avahi-daemon” produces no errors.

when i say "hostname" my pi says "ubos-rpi2" instead of "ubos-raspberry-pi2" as i told my system during installation. but when i try to open "ubos-rpi2.local" or "ubos-rpi2.local/nextcloud" there appears the 404-side.
I posted some screenshots and a picture. on the photo my local ip-address has been made unrecognizable for security reasons.

Seems we have solved the problem: mDNS now resolves to your box, but because you installed to site ubos-raspberry-pi2.local, not ubos-rpi2.local, it won’t come up. Redeploying to that site should help — or alternatively, edit /etc/hostname and set it to what you’d like it to be (and then “hostname $(cat /etc/hostname)” or reboot).

Mistake on my part in messing up the default hostnames. https://github.com/uboslinux/ubos-admin/issues/336

i've difficulties to connect by ubos-staff. i can't edit/etc/hostname of my pi with the terminal of the remote computer. i can only do this with the terminal of pi/ubos. to solve this problem at once it perhaps would be better to delete the partitons of the sd-card, to write a new patition table on it, to format it and to reinstall ubos with host "ubos-rpi2.local" as i did that so many times before.

No. The use of certs really assumes you have official DNS names — you can fudge some thing if you don’t mind browser security warnings, but it sort of defeats the purpose.
