Hello all,

Minutes from today:

Upcoming UBLG events
  1. Our Monday weekly meetings will occasionally be a round-table style meeting at a member's house. This next week (Monday October 24) will be at my house, 192 Richmond Ave., at 4pm. It will be a very relaxed meeting so feel free to bring some beverages and let me know if you need directions. 
  2. The Film Series (showing Forgotten Buffalo) was rescheduled for October 26 due to a weather related power outage. Once again, the event will start at 7pm at Burning Books Buffalo at 420 Connecticut Street. 
  3. The Tenant Know Your Rights clinic is scheduled for October 29 at 1pm. It will take place at 471 Grant Street at the Grant Street Neighborhood Center. We will be looking for people to hang fliers and spread the word, so please help out.
  4. We have a Halloween Costume Picture booth scheduled for October 31 in the lobby. There will be a ton of costumes and donuts, cider, coffee, etc. Should be a great time and a fun opportunity to get your picture taken on Halloween! Alissa is looking for volunteers to work at the table, so please sign up: Costume Photo Booth Sign-Up
  5. The Police Stop rights clinic is tentatively scheduled for November 12. The director of NY Civil Liberties Union, Western District, has signed on to sponsor and help organize. We'll be meeting with him in the two weeks to plan the event (and other Know Your Rights clinics). If you're interested, sign up on the "committees" link below.
Things members should do
News
  1. Several folks from UBLG braved the weather and participated in the Occupy Buffalo rally in Niagara Square over the weekend. The gathering drew a good number of folks and was fairly productive. Check out the UBLG facebook page to see some pictures.
  2. It is time to start planning the Guild's major event, the Meet and Greet. Sign up on the "committees" link above to help out with planning at the meeting TBD next week.
  3. At Hardware Cafe (on Allen St) tomorrow, there is a Freedom of Information Law clinic. It starts at 5:30 and will be a great way to learn the dynamics of this incredibly useful tool as a lawyer.
  4. The city chapter of the Lawyers Guild is looking to set up a time to work with our members for a progressive lawyer training event. Stay tuned for more information as we set this up.
