Is it just me or does this waterthrush look like a LOUISIANA?

The color in the top photo looks like artifact making it “yellowish”—but all the fildmarks point to LOWA (heavy bill, clean throat, broad clean steaks).

The color in the second photo is the colder tones typical of LOWA.

Thoughts?

Cheers
Tim

I took a look at the bird in question and it does look awfully bright and white. However, another record came through my eBird review queue and it has a slightly better photo of what I assume is the same bird. To me the photo in the below list looks like a typical Northern Waterthrush and it appears to have the narrowing, yellow washed eyebrows stripe. The speckling on the throat is also more clear in the other photo. Here is a link to the list with the additional photo from the same field trip: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S45911504

Always worth a second look! Let me know if anyone has other thoughts opinions on this photo.

Thanks Leah, as well as Cameron Cox, who provided an excellent summary of this bird offline, and mentioned that the whitish overall color pattern is likely a trait of an eastern bird!

Cheers
Tim

Can you share Cameron’s assessment? Are we thinking LOWA even given the additional photo? To me I am not seeing a LOWA still and curious what others think on this image. NOWA can also appear whitish on the underparts and the bird does clearly have streaking on the throat and underside of the belly, both traits consistent with NOWA. Just curious to hear Cameron’s input. I validated these records as NOWA in eBird for now. Thanks!

Ah ok that makes sense since their ranges overlap. You had me confused for a minute. Thanks!
