Well, it's exciting for me, as it was a lifer, but I'm not sure if it
will be for others who are more experienced birders than me. Tonight
I saw a Gray Catbird on the trail near Novell at the intersection of
East Bay Blvd. and 1600 S., on the southwest side of the
intersection. They have an incredible song, and they really can sound
like a cat! It was a nice sighting for me.
I also saw Spotted Sandpipers, Yellow Warblers, Robins, Starlings (a
juvenile was following its mother around the parking lot, squawking
for food while she picked up morsels and fed it), Mallards, Western
Kingbird, Black-billed Magpie, Barn Swallows, Cedar Waxwings (I also
witnessed another incident of one Waxwing feeding another, but it
looked like two adults), Red-winged Blackbird, Bullock's Orioles, and
House Finches. I also checked on the local Osprey nest. Dad was
perched on the edge of the nesting platform while mom looked to still
be in an incubating position. She must still have an unhatched egg in
there as it was warm enough out that I don't think she would need to
be keeping that babies quite that covered. I wish an osprey baby
would put in an appearance already. I know there has to be at least
one in there by now.
