Dear Ubinetters,
I am your contact for the final projects (PFE).
The number of credits for the PFEs is 4. Then, you should work on the project one day per week during the courses and full time for 4 weeks (November 25th-December 6th, February 17th- 26th).

The current list of projects is available at
https://atlas.polytech.unice.fr/jira/issues/?jql=project%20%3D%20SPFE%20AND%20labels%20%3D%20Ubinet
New projects can be submitted until October 6th, so check regularly the list.
Below you find the calendar and instructions about how to express your preferences (deadline on October 15th).

You are strongly invited to discuss, at least by email, about the subjects of your interest with the proposers, also because some topics have additional tasks that are not mentioned in the description online (this is the case for all the projects that seem to require only a bibliographical study).

Please consider that the projects will be assigned by a committee, taking into account your preferences, but also trying to fairly distribute the students among all the different research teams. Hence,
1) there is no guarantee that you will get a project for which you have expressed a preference,
2) it is better if you collectively try to fairly distribute the preferences across the different subjects.
If you have any question please do not hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Giovanni Neglia.

PFE calendar:
- October 6th deadline for subjects proposal
- October 7th and 10th possibility to present your PFEs to the students (Guillaume will provide more information on the rooms and the schedules)
- October 15th students' deadline to choose the PFE
- October 17th PFEs' assignment
- October 21st PFEs' start
- November 19th, delivery of the "Description of Work" to the academic supervisor (see attached template)
- November 25th-December 6th, full-time work on the PFEs
- February 17th-26th, full-time work on the PFEs
- February 26th, deadline for final report submission
- February 27th-28th PFEs defense

---------------------------------
How to express your preferences
---------------------------------
We ask you to express 5 ranked preferences on a shared excel file.
- go to http://tinyurl.com/ubinet13pfe
- in the first four columns there are the projects' titles, supervisors' names and teams, reviewer's name, then there is a column for each of you
- express your preferences by putting a number between 1 and 5 (1=most preferred, 5=least preferred) in the cells at the intersection between the project row and your column (there is an example with my name).

I will update the list of projects as soon as new ones are submitted.

Dear Ubinetters,
remember that today is the deadline to submit your choices.
Please note that some professors from other masters have informed me that the topics they proposed are no more available because they have already found candidates. This is the case for four topics that I already removed from the spreadsheet. Some of you may need to update their choices.

Please also note that there are a couple of cases where two students have put the same topics as their first choice, then the second choice of each of them is the first choice of someone else and so on.
Clearly these situations may bring them to get a low rank choice.
I invite you to play the game "what if I do not get my first choice"? Perhaps this would lead you to change your choice (a good game theory exercise for PEN2).

Best,
    Giovanni Neglia.

Hi,
please be sure that you have specified all your 5 choices. At the moment I see the following issues (some of which are due to the topics that have been removed):

Gjata has two 5 but not 1
Kaddouri has no 5
Obreja has no 1
Shoja has no 5
Soni has no 2
Sorush has no 4 and 5
Taleb has no 3
Zholtkevych has no 5.

For the person who keeps resizing the columns, please stop it.

Best,
Giovanni Neglia

Hi,
Afra, Gjata, Kaddouri, Taleb, you are going for a serious clash with all your first choices overlapping.

I still see that
- Kaddouri has no fifth choice
- Sorush has no fourth and fifth choice
Please consider that if needed you will get a random choice.

I am going to block changes in one hour.

Best,
    Giovanni Neglia.

Dear Ubinetters,
you are now in the last full-time period for your PFE.
Please remember that the deadline to submit the report to
your reviewer is on February 26th (please put your
supervisor and myself in cc).

For your report you can adapt the template we sent you for
the DoW. Keep the same format for the first page (simply
replace "Description of Work" with "Final report"). The
document length is expected to be between 20 and 30 pages.

You will defend according to the following calendar in room
-206 (ex E-204).
You can present for at most 18 minutes (i.e. you should
prepare roughly 9-12 slides). Questions from the jury will
follow.

Best regards,
Giovanni Neglia
