I have got a Futaba 72 MHz RC Transmitter, Its range is 100+ steps with antenna down when directly connected with reciever. But it decreases tremendously when connected indirectly with UDB4 and just remains upto 20 steps. We can not fly manually with such small range. I am using Matrixpilot 3.2.1.  I am using serial_UDB option and 6V battery for power. How we can eliminate this problem?? please suggest.

Pls extend the antenna or change antenna module.  it cannot reduce the range so much unless you have serious RF cage  issue or damaged rx antenna. best of luck

Hi Zuhaib,

I suspect the problem is with your receiver, not with the transmitter....

I am using some very old Futaba 72 MHz transmitters, model FP-T4NBF FM transmitters. I have 3 of them, they all work really great now, but I did run into some problems before I figured out that some receivers are subject to interference from the UDB.

Mostly I use Castle Creations Berg receivers, such as this one. I find that the range and interference rejection is excellent.

However, from time to time, I have tried some other receivers, such as the HiTec HFS-06MT and the Futaba FP-R127DF, with poor results.

The HiTec was unusable. The Futaba was marginal.

I did some investigation, and found that the UDB emits a small amount of radio signals. A good receiver (one with multiple frequency conversions and good rejection of out-of-band signals) will not have any issues. However, some receivers, such as HiTec and Futaba, are vulnerable to interference.

My suggestion to you is to try another type of receiver, particularly if you are using either a HiTec or Futaba receiver. I recommend the Castle Creations Berg.

Also, it helps to mount the receiver at least 6 inches away from the UDB. For example, it would not be a good idea to place the receiver on top of the UDB.

Best regards,

Hi Zuhaib,

I spent two months trying to eliminate interference on a 35Mhz Futuaba system a couple of years ago. I eventually switched to 2.4Ghz and have since then not had any problems at all.

Best wishes, Pete
