Does anyone have an Xplane model for an X8 Skywalker flying wing?

Hi Tom,

There's this: https://github.com/jlnaudin/x-drone/wiki/x-drone:-MaxiSwift,-the-X_Plane-model-for-HIL-simulations
It flies OK for me with the PX4 and Xplane9.

I suppose it would be a good starting point for building an X8.

Hi Mark,

That looks like a useful model for those of us that are testing MatrixPilot Helical Turns.

Best wishes, Pete

Hi Peter,

I'm still trying to learn some of the relevant aeronautical theory.
Found a textbook I like a lot: http://www.amazon.com/Small-Unmanned-Aircraft-Theory-Practice/dp/0691149216/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1421249516&sr=1-1&keywords=small+unmanned+aircraft
I've attached some supplemental slides for that book that I found useful.

Keep in mind the flying wing doesn't have a rudder :)
I'm using the Xplane PT60 and HILstar17 to simulate slip/skid control. The PT60 has more rudder authority, but of course one can use Xplane's builder tool to change that.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the recommendation for the book. From the table of contents and the slides you sent, it looks like a rather good book, so I have ordered one. After I have a chance to read it, I would enjoy discussing it with you.
Regarding flying wing, Florin reports good results with helical control branch and his flying wing.
Best regards,
Bill

Hey guys,

Thanks for the book tip and Xplane model. That book looks pretty good, may get it to do object avoidance if I get back on that stuff.

Bill,

That book was written by two prof's at BYU, and a lot of good work with UAVs has come out of there in addition to very bright graduates.
I'm working on my first flying wing now, but it will be a twin-engined tractor setup just to make things more interesting :)
