Hey Sean,
This should be in a different thread and I don't know if changing the subject will work but...
I think you should just start building away but you should also make sure to coordinate with John.
What are you planning about hosting domain, Sean?
I've attached my contribution if it will help any. It hasn't been updated since before Haiyan.

Sean.Regards,Is it okay to proceed? After the forums are finished, the technical infrastructure for the main informative page will be created based upon the design created previously by a fellow student. It will be PHP for the forum as it the best overall for our needs. Also one last question,I can get the forums for the ACM student chapter website up and running fairly quick on a temporary server if that suits.

Dear students and group,
Will I just start building the technical infrastructure for the web site or does further suggestions from anyone need to be contacted before starting?

In reference to the posting list sent out:
- Joan Advincula – chapter chair
- Angela Lubianca C. – Secretary / Treasurer
- John Mboru – Vice chair / External affairs / Head of committee
- Rafael Victor - committee member
- Ateafac S. Forsong – web master
- Dr. Dan Taipala – Chapter sponsor
Which ones remain and which are left to be filled?
Following the long period of inactivity we went through, I realized our chapter is closing up and no one bothered [especially the officers] about the chapter anymore. For Joan’s case as the chair who bears the responsibility of galvanizing the group and keep things running, she was hit by a fatal tragedy which we all know. For that reason, I personally do not have any blames on her. That said, the mandate for officiating the chapter is valid only for one academic year [Article: IV], so we have every legality to reshuffle the officiating team and that is exactly what is suggested in the Road Map for 2014. The suggestions are based on who is available and who is willing to make valuable contributions right now. So, Joan indicated her circumstances resulting from the tragedy, where she has network challenges and can barely text. Three reasons justify my decision to step up as our next chair which are as follows, and I would not come back to explanation again in the future:
- Joan is not entirely available as before given her present circumstances as explained above.
- The mandate for current officers has expired
- I am tremendously motivated to get our chapter up to the next level
I believe these reasons need no further explanations and I encourage all of us to complement each other and orientate our energy towards the same direction as a team and it would easier to move forward. Comments that disorientate the group are not welcomed and we should learn from past failures.
I will put myself forward for the webmaster in reference to this "John posted a sincere feedback indicating that he is not competent enough to fill the role of webmastering our website since he is an Economic student." But I believe
Ateafac is the webmaster, I didn't realise John was involved in it as the Vice chair / External affairs / Head of committee.
First, thank you for stepping up and willing to fill the role of webmaster for our chapter and contribute so we can move forward. We consider the role of webmaster filled by Sean and you can take your time and start building gradually, by the time we get a remote server space (hopefully from ACM when we register), we can migrate there immediately without stress.
Secondly, thank you for being here despite our multitudes of tasks regarding studies and daily life.
"the role of committee member(s)"
For one thing that I know, committees are more useful in large organizations. A committee is a group of persons subordinate to a larger group who have the responsibility to sit back and think for the organization. Make suggestions and take decisions on behave of the organization. You could have committees like board of directors, executive committees, etc. For lack of members, we can accumulate roles such that Rafael and John can continue to be committee members.
Added to that, Rafael can be our next secretary for reasons that:
- Angela also indicated she will only be partially engaged since she doesn’t have much time in her hands right now. The role of secretary is suitable for Rafael or Angela because they have access to resources that can permit them do financial transactions easily such as credit cards and other payment options which we greatly lack here in my area. I truly wish, Rafael can step up for the role of secretary/treasurer.
The updated list:
- Chair – Ateafac S. Forsong
- Vice chair – Joan Advincula
- Secretary/Treasuere – Rafael [suggestion]
- External affairs / Head of committee – John Mboru
- Webmaster – Sean
- Sponsor – Dan Taipala (Ph.D)
Please, post up your feedbacks and help us continue to move with this renewed commitment.

--Dear all,To compile the list to be forwarded to the hierarchy, we need to know the active members now present even though most may not be aware that we are up and working again.
Another reason, there are officer posts that are still suspending without concrete persons to fill the roles. Such as the role of an active secretary because since I posted the Road Map (RM) one month ago (Feb. 19), Angela has not shown indications that she will continue to fill this role as was suggested in the RM.
Secondly, John posted a sincere feedback indicating that he is not competent enough to fill the role of webmastering our website since he is an Economic student. We need to step up and stop thinkering, are we not computer science students?
Thirdly, the role of committee member(s) which is still suspeding without concrete persons to help here. So, please indicate your presence and step up for any of these posts before the end of the week since I will be forwarding all this information Monday after exams.
Goodluck with end of term exams.Sincerely

+1 to Ashiru's thoughts.
I was just asking if Sean has access to a server and a domain we can use for our initial purposes because we don't have funds just yet. So, I was wondering what Sean was planning to do about that.
My attachment ended up in a different thread. I'm attaching them here again.

Hello All,
I'm sorry Ateafac misinterpreted what I meant when I said "Here's my contribution." It's not a template. It was something I put together while we were working out and trying to put together a website last year. I uploaded it because I imagined that the code might be useful but, like I said, "contribution". No one HAD to use it, but it was something anyone CAN use.
And, just to clarify something, this website is the first project of our student chapter. Any project that we create must be something which can be useful for everyone, even the phases of development. Hence, the upload.
Just like John said, he learned quite a bit of CSS3 and HTML while trying to modenize the first one that got uploaded.
For any future endeavors of our student chapter, we must always think like so: every one of them must be something through which we can all benefit from. So, it's like, the process is more important than the product. After all, we're all CS students. In the end, whatever product we might come up with should just be a happy side-effect from the learning we gained from the process.
It's also why I suggested uploading the website code to github.
Now, moving on, Ashiru, thank you so much for your generosity. I know for a fact that servers and domain names cost something so, I hope you have a big enough heart for generosity, enough until we can get official support.
Best,
Joan Advincula

Hi Ateafac,
That is exactly why I had to upload it here: because we don't have our own database yet. And it can't just be any database, it has to be one that others can freely access.
I knew for a fact that we're not all familiar with github, even I can't be confident about it despite the fact that I suggested it. But that's what makes it a good new learning. Also, learning it would be very useful since many projects make use of it.

Yup, something like that was exactly what I was thinking. But I don't have access to the kind of connectivity that can get me to do anything useful with github so, if no one will take on this task yet, it will have to be put off for later.

Which probably means we need a fallback for people using browsers with less CSS3 support.
But, that should come later because, you're right, Ali, we need content.
What's the plan for this? Is there a plan?
