Hello everyone,

It's been quite a bit but Dr. Taipala responded to our inquiry about having video lectures from professionals in the industry and he said thus:

I am looking into getting us a speaker for a lecture.  My thought is that we could do this as a webcast that we could do live in one timezone and then record for other timezones.   Some of the topics that I thought might be interesting include and I wanted to get your feedback on this:

Cloud computing
Big Data Analytics
SOA Architectures
Mobile Computing

One option that I am looking into is the possibility of getting one of the HP Fellows as a speaker.  Further, this weekend I will be attending the CCSC (Consortium for Computer Science in Colleges) Conference and I will be looking to my colleagues for some ideas of how we can get our chapter engaged in activities with other universities.

Based on previous discussions from the VLE, I suggested we go with cloud computing. But you guys might have other ideas. What do you think?

Please respond the soonest possible. We can't have Dr. Taipala waiting for us too long.

I think the topics are all relevant and the order of preference may
depend on which speaker is available for what topic.
As Joan suggested, we may go first for a lecture on cloud computing
but notwithstanding, I welcome lectures from any of the topics.

Other topics of interest to me
- 3D web animation
- social media architecture
- Internet security

With regret I am going to have to state that I wish to no longer be involved in the ACM Student Chapter operations. I want to remain a part of the student chapter but I simply haven't got the time available.

At present I am barely keeping everything in my life on an even keel as it is. Is there some way to still be a part of the ACM student chapter for university of the people and just take part in the activities?

Really sorry, just life takes over.

Hey Sean,

You got nothing to worry about.

Although, your statement is weird. You say you don't want to be part of the operations but you want to take part in the activities? That's kinda confusing because the activities are part of the chapter operations. So, I'll just take it as you don't want to be part of preparing and organizing because you don't have the time but you still, essentially, want to be part of the chapter, right?

It's fine.

You just have to watch out for the announcements, though, so you'll know when the activities will be and you can participate.

I am just curious as to the cost of each of these:

Total amount of funds needed to completely cover tuition for one student full-time/part-time.

How many people need the ACM student membership fee covered and the cost collectively?

Morning all

Sorry for being away for so long but I'd agree that cloud computing would be a perfect starting point as its becoming more widely accepted in the IT world.
