Sorry if nobody could be bothered to even respond or register for the
forums, then what the hell am I sacrificing all my effort for?

If anyone is not happy with something say?

If anyone wants things to change in any way?

If no response is received from general users after a certain point I am
not going to bother.

Do people still want this? If anyone wants to implement things different
just say.

I will not be chasing this case up again. I have better things to do. I
can turn all my efforts towards something and the chapter will have
nothing further from me. Whatever the decision I need to be told.

Hi sean,
You've asked a couple of questions and I think they need responses as well. Well, I posted recently that I will send you feedback after reviewing the functionalities.
I got a few comments:

1. If anyone isn't using the forum right away, could be because it is not ready yet. Secondly, I posted from the very beginning of the project stating how the website will be announced to the rest of the students and I still believe in what I said. Untill we ooficially, announce the website, I don't expect the forum to be busy the way you expect right now.

2. The default topics you have set already in the forum, are not necessary I think. the forum should be blank and let users generate contect and write their own topics.

3. Also, the registration process should be trivial and should require just an email and a user name. I also think, colleting sensitive information could be a turn off for most users.

4. back to the home page, the layout is not complet yet. the icons for ACM and Uopeople spots are a little large. Should be small and and a link embedded in them such that clicking the icon should open up the respective websites.

5. The header is not complet and as you could check from the template I posted.

6. The links on the upper left side content are not active yet.

7. the search box and button are yet to be implemented

8. The footer need to follow the eaxmple on the templete.

9. The slideshow and scrolling news headlines should be active also.

10. The content I send to you should be the content on the home page and not what you have posted there.

Well, you can see that we still have a long way to go and I suggest that you focus on completing the design that worrying on people using the product. That is someone else's job to bring people to the website.

So far, I continue to commend your work and I encourage you to keep but but please, follow the plan we have made untill now.

Best,
Ateafac

1. Fair enough. In the end though this website is for the current and future students. After a certain time period we will both be gone. You and I should not be restricting a communication channel (forums) that has been requested and pushed for quite a while. They need to communicate to learn and grow. It should open to them. I don't agree with restricting the main communication until the graphic design/layout is complete and no one person should have the final decision on this. While they are using the forums, other features of the website can be developed. No restriction should be in place for them in order to suit someone else's schedule. They a usable channel of collaboration now...

2. I was not aware again due to no plan/design documentation being provided. I can only work with what I now.

"The default topics you have set already in the forum, are not necessary I think. the forum should be blank and let users generate contect and write their own topics."

This will have to be investigated in terms of functionality. Having users creating their own content is massive maintenance nightmare that's why community moderation exists in the first place. Also more opinions are needed from other students and remember... The design decisions implemented have to adhere to the same quality that other ACM chapters have adhered too. They have defined set structure and so must we. Again we are free to do whatever is desired in terms of labour, resources or future maintenance. This thing is going to grow and needs control but that control must adhere to ACM standards to be accepted.

3. This isn't really an option as the technology we are using has been purchased because it provides the bulk of everything you want out of the box. If that level of customization is what you truly want, you have to develop your own option from scratch. If that's what you choose then good luck with it. Remember something all the functionality comes at a price, not in the monetary sense. The features available have certain limits or requirements, that's reality. If that is not satisfactory then say.

4. I am not a mind reader, give me plan for all pages please. If I am given nothing I can deliver what you want. No plan, nothing will be in place. I am not a mind reader.

5 - 6 - 7- 8 - 9- 10   PLAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

" Well, you can see that we still have a long way to go " - Not really, those features that you listed are things that can done but not with no clearly defined layout.

" and I suggest that you focus on completing the design" - Keep your suggestions and excuse me but I not the designer, I just implement what you or someone else will provide me. I stated from the start that I was not designing anything. Because nothing had been contributed by anyone, I took the initiative to get things done.

" that worrying on people using the product. " - If I am not doing this for the current and future students then who am I doing it for? Also I have invested a tremendous amount for all students so far.

"That is someone else's job to bring people to the website." - No it's not. It's everyones.

"follow the plan we have made untill now." - What plan? So far I have been left doing everything while being ordered to meet mystical requirements of one person whose mind I am meant to read.

Wake up...

"That is someone else's job to bring people to the website."

One final thing I would like to say to everyone that has bothering me for quite a while about the current distribution of labor, I don't think anyone who hasn't contributed anything should be in a role of any significance.

Sean.
