Iread multiple threads about this and there are a few defenders of the current setup.
So here is my question to those people, what would prevent you from zooming in as much as you like while also allowing others to zoom out and enjoy the game?
As much as I agree that the game is far to zoomed in, can you inagine the crashing and disconnects or errors if we could zoom out further? Geez, they cant even keep servers up at the mo, let alone provide a good gaming experience.
Not a server issue, that is rendered locally and the server is already aware of the actions and mobs beyond your vision.
My skeletons murder things outside the visible area all the time and who knows what drops are there that I miss etc.
One boss fight near the end of the campaign half the boss arena is obscured by a massive wall, no joke i spent half the fight against that boss staring at my glowing outline and the bosses through a wall that covered my whole screen, i had to move him to the other side of the boss arena to be able to see.
For some added context, the way it works is that there will be two options now. One is a Standard zoomed feature which is how it is presently in the game. The other will be a Far feature which is what some noticed yesterday.
Some platforms like PC (but not Steam Deck) will default to the Far zoomed out feature. There will be a new option in the menu to change this to Standard as well. Steam Deck can also change it, but I just want to note their default is the Standard zoom.
The team did some extra checks on performance for this as this does increase draw distance and add some more things on the screen. If players experience any performance related items during PTR, please let us know in the PTR forums when those open up. It is important for us to make sure we get that in.
I want the legion/world boss event timers made so that you can click them and it centers the event location on the map as best as possible (something like Fractured Peaks world boss spawn would be off center but more clearly shown as your center is close to that location).
Open world serves no purpose after the campaign and is never viable to farm. Or maybe the problem is the campaign offers nothing after finishing it. Leveling in adventure mode is much much faster, so noone bothers walking through the story ever again. Mob density is abysmal making 90% of content useless.
There are still some flaws in the core gameplay, like vulnerable or skilltrees or how few ways we actually get to make a proper build. There are still a looooot of work to be done for me to call it similar to what d1, d2 or d3 was like at the start.
Not yet sadly. When i heard them talking about zoom. I was like could this be, however it was just for the minimap to be zoomed out just a bit further to help navigate in towns, dungeons map etc a bit easier.
This is a problem of people not understanding perspective and dimensions. But its the same effect as zooming out, if you leave out the vertical information. When i play ultrawide on my 42" 4k 16:9 OLED, its definitely the same as being more zoomed out, because it is ultrawide in a 16:9 container. Look at D4 gameplay on youtube with ultrawide gameplay and compare it to D4 16:9 gameplay. Its more zoomed out, since its ultrawide put into a 16:9 container.
With playing D4 in Ultrawide, you gain horizontal information while not losing any vertical information. So if you put all that information into a 16:9 container, its the same effect as zooming out, except you dont gain any vertical information. This is a factual matter, you only need to understand it. Putting a Ultrawide picture into a 16:9 container will make the game look exactly as it would look zoomed out, minus the vertical information. All you are doing while zooming out in a game is gaining vertical and horizontal information. So its not exactly the same, since you gain vertical information by zooming out, but it is exactly the same for the horizontal information.
sigh. dont quit your day job kid. no one is arguing increasing the horizontal ratio increased visible width, but it doesnt change that the zoom is still absurdly tight. play Diablo 3 or PoE and youll notice how significantly zoomed in diablo 4 is.
Im telling you that playing Diablo 4 on a 16:9 widescreen, while having the game in Ultrawide resolution, putting that Ultrawide image into the 16:9 container screen, WILL HAVE THE SAME EFFECT AS ZOOMING OUT, minus the extra vertical information. You are literally playing a more zoomed out game doing this, minus the vertical information you actually gain from zooming out.
I just came here to add to this, I feel the camera is way too close especially when in towns. This needs to be adjusted as I feel like I am easily getting lost in towns too with how close the camera zooms in.
Being in town is claustrophobic, I have to constantly check map to see where paths/vendors are because literally all I can see is my character and the floor around him with some surrounding detail, but no where near enough.
Diablo 4 received countless praises from players and critics alike when it first came out, and it has gotten even more since then (considering it is one of the best Diablo games, this isn't shocking). The game features a ton of content, allowing players to spend hours playing it and building their perfect character in the land of Sanctuary.
While the game is amazing, one thing that players have always complained about is how far they can zoom out. A good portion of players have been asking Blizzard to allow them to zoom out even more, giving them a better view of the game. Thankfully, Blizzard has obliged players. Here's how players can zoom out even more.
Zooming out in Diablo 4 allows players to get a better view of the battlefield. The feature to zoom out even more than the standard zoom was added at the start of Season 4. However, the option is available to everyone, not just those in seasonal realms, meaning anyone can do this right now. Considering the game is all about defeating the hoards of Lilith's army (like during Helltides), having a better vantage point can make all the difference.
For platforms like the PC, the new, more zoomed-out view will automatically be the default (though this can be changed in the settings). For other platforms, such as handhelds, the older viewpoint will be the default (once again, this can be changed). So, it depends on what platform players are on as to which zoom will be their default going forward. Players who have gotten on since the start of Season 4 may have already noticed the change if they are playing on a platform like the PC.
The option to change the zoom hasn't been advertised much, so some players weren't even aware that it was added to the game (unless they read the patch notes for the update that included it). Thankfully, Blizzard made it easy for those who want to change their zoom (whether it is the new zoom or the standard zoom) to do so in the settings. Here are the steps players need to follow.
When starting the game it will be at the current standard zoom level but it can be adjusted to be more zoomed out. This is a welcome change because I have always found the zoom level just a little too tight.
There has also been some debate about the zoom level being too zoomed in causing players to fall asleep. While I have no evidence for that, it could be possible. Any experts feel free to chime in on that ?

The process of zooming your camera in Diablo 2: Resurrected is quite simple. When moving around in the world, simply tap the F key and the camera will zoom in. Although your view will be more limited, it allows you to see the characters and environments in much better detail. Another tap of the F key will zoom the camera back out. There is no way to slowly zoom or partially zoom the camera outside of the two settings.

Season 4 has brought a plethora of new additions to Diablo, with one subtle yet significant change being the increased zoom-out capability. This enhancement has been well-received by the community, with many players expressing their delight at the ability to see more of the game world reminiscent of the beloved Diablo 2 and 3.
While the majority of players are thrilled about the expanded zoom feature, some have raised concerns about locating the setting within the game. This sentiment highlights a potential hurdle for players trying to access the zoom-out functionality seamlessly. As a player-centric game, addressing these interface challenges should be a priority for the developers to ensure a smooth gaming experience for all users.
Wondering how to zoom out in Diablo 4? We've got you covered. With Diablo 4 out now, fans of the franchise continue to discuss a range of topics surrounding the game. Knowing how to zoom out gives you a much clearer view of the surrounding area and with a range of controls to master, it can prove tricky.
With this being said, there's a high chance most players will use the extended view as the only zoom out option. It allows players to get more information on their screen, which gives an advantage in both PvP and PvE scenarios.
