Dear members of the UAI list,
We would appreciate you sharing the opportunity below with your network — given this list's focus on uncertainty and probabilistic reasoning, it may be of genuine interest.
Open Earth Foundation is hiring a founding Principal AI Research Scientist for NEST, a research program on how intelligent systems can reason across nested scales — buildings to cities to national and planetary energy systems — with coherent world models and principled uncertainty. The role is fundamentally about uncertainty, probabilistic reasoning, and decision-making across scales, rather than applied-LLM work.
It's a strong fit for people in probabilistic programming and Bayesian AI, world models and long-horizon planning, scientific ML / differentiable programming, active inference, or complex adaptive systems.
NEST is run by Open Earth Foundation with IIASA, Imperial College London, CEU, and the Active Inference Institute, supported by Schmidt Sciences. Remote (with CET / US-Pacific overlap), 3-year, grant-funded. PhD in AI/ML with real depth in probabilistic reasoning expected; climate background welcome but not required. Compensation $80–130k USD and negotiable.
