to U9200 emulator
Well, it is finally time to put Version 1.0 out there for any who might be interested.

The emulator as it stands right now is a complete 9200/9300 card system with 32K memory, packed decimal hardware support and the built-in reader, printer and punch. It also has experimental Uniservo VI C tape support. The card assembler and linker are working without apparent problems and have been used extensively by myself to write test routines for the emulator. The memory dump and macro pre-pass programs are also known to be working.

For those who have already been playing with the emulator there have been a few improvements and bug fixes since the last version.

  • The Display and Alter switches should no behave more like a "real" 9200
  • There was a bug in the reader emulator that caused the last line of an ASCII card file to be dropped if the file didn't end with a new-line. This has been fixed.
  • There as a bug in the printer emulator that cause line spacing the be erratic. This has been fixed.
Documentation for the emulator itself is sadly lacking but the emulation is sufficiently true to the original that if you have some vague memories of having used a 9200 and you can still find your way around the Univac manuals that are included with the emulator you should have no problems loading a program and getting it to run.

I have added a reference for the installation file to this notice. Hopefully, you will be able to click the link and download the file.

I wish to thank those without whom this emulator would not be what it is today. Charlie Gibbs, who was a source for a great many manuals that I had thought were lost forever. Roland Langfeld who provided manuals for 8410 disc and Uniservo VI C tape drives as well as original 9200 / 9300 card files. John Purvis who kindly provided some old manuals and card decks. Also the BitSavers.org site was a gold mine of old manuals and 9200 software.

Dear Stephen,

thank you for this excellent piece of software ! The emulator (I had the privilege to test the beta-version some time ago) is a very helpful tool to get the two **real** 9200 machines in our museum running again !!
