to Univac Emulators
Well, it is time to release Version 0.? of the 90/30 emulator. It is not complete but there is enough to allow OS/3 to run and to execute the Verify System Build (VSB) jobs. You should also be able to write your own programs using the card reader for input.

The emulator as it stands implements the entire instruction set EXECLUDING FLOATING POINT. There is a U100 console, 0717 reader, 0773 printer and up to 8 8416/8418 disk drives. There is no documentation for the emulator. A small collection of original 90/30 manuals is included. There are more on bitsavers.

You can download the installer here:

After running the installer you can start the emulator from the Window Start menu. There are two configurations. The Univac 9030 Emulator shortcut will load with a single disk on device 300 containing the Release 4.2 SYSRES. The Univac 9030 Emulator (VSB) will load with two disks: the VSB SYSRES on 300 and the VSB data on 301. After starting the emulator two windows will be open. The virtual maintenance panel and the U100 console.

To boot OS/3 simply enter the device number of the boot device (300) and click the IPL button. This will cause the Supervisor selection prompt to display on the console. Press F12 (transmit) and the next screen will appear. Enter the date (MM/DD/YY) and time and press F12. This will cause the familiar OS/3 console screen to appear. To enter a console command press F11 (msg wait), enter your command and press F12.
