Goddamn, I'm so happy!!! :) :) :) ♥ ♥ ♥ I'm so damn happy than I can't express my happiness with words!!!

Yes, that's true: Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 (en-US) (Mozilla Official U3 Smart Build) is already available to download and use as soon as you got updated!!! :) :) :) ♥ ♥ ♥

How to do it? Really, really easy...

■ 01. A pop-up window should appear automatically a few minutes after you start using your U3 Smart Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.16 web browser. If not appear, in the menu bar go to > Help > Check for updates... and you should see this pop-up window or this one.
■ 02. Read the EULA and, if agree, accept the terms and push the Next > button.
■ 03. Download will start. The file size is 9.4 MB. You will download the Mozilla Firefox (en-US) 3.0.1 version.
■ 04. Just like always you did it, you need to restart your web browser.
■ 05. Update will start. It will took some seconds, be patient. :) You will update from Mozilla Firefox (en-US) 2.0.0.16 to Mozilla Firefox (en-US) 3.0.1.
■ 06. Yes!! You got it!! Now you are ready to use your updated Mozilla Firefox 3 in everywhere!!

If you do not wish yet to migrate to Mozilla Firefox 3 (because of current non-compatibilities with some add-ons), you can continue using Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.nn updated and supported until January 2009. Then there will no more updates nor support for Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.nn.

The next Mozilla Firefox 2 release (2.0.0.17) will be available at September 11th.

Smackers from Buenos Aires.

Note to U3 Staff: Please update the blog with this news and publish the Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 (en-US) (Mozilla U3 Smart Official Build) executable file at the U3 Software Central web-site so there is not need (to customers who don't have yet the previous version) to download the 2.0.0.4 version to then update this to 3.0.1.

Thank all of you so, so much indeed in advance.

Have a wonderful day! :) ♥

Hi,

I have just followed the instructions below and upgraded the U3
Firefox to V3.01. Then loaded on my usual addons that would work with
V3. However I have now found it to be almost unusable. It's either
very slow or locks up reulting in the program stopping and having to
be closed in Windows Task Manager. This is a pity because V3.01 works
well directly loaded on a PC and is more reliable that IE8 which is
still a beta. I am now back to using FFox V2.0.0.16 up to its last
update via U3 which works acceptably.

U3 are going to have to do some work on this before FFox V2.0 ceases
to be supported.

Hello, Harry.

Well, add-ons are not full-essential part of the web browser itself.
They are "add ons", not the product itself and this is what has been
updated, not all the extensions or themes.

Have in mind that there are also some add-ons which are experimental
and may not work properly. Also, the behavior of the web browser and
all the add-ons (extensions and themes) depend on your flash drive's
free space. For instance, if you need to update the web browser, you
will need at least around 20~25 MB in order to do it. The more
extensions and themes you have, the more space you will need.

Anyway, it would be helpful if you tell us what add-ons have that
behavior, so I can test them.

By the way: new dates for Mozilla Firefox releases: Mozilla Firefox
2.0.0.17 and Mozilla Firefox 3.0.2 will be released on September 16th.

Dear U3,

I have fallen in love w/ U3 software and drives. Because of your
security features I have already recommended them to some software
engineer friends who are addicted to portableapps.com.

I am anticipating a full working version of Firefox 3 (perhaps with
fewer glitches than some of the other bloggers mentioned), and I am
hesitant to install what you have now. One plug-in that I am in
tremendous need of in Firefox, and hence, I need to ensure U3 support
of, is Zotero <www.zotero.org>. You may find that many people in the
academic sphere will begin "requiring" this software in the future.
It might be a good one to ensure support and compatibility for. Thus
far, the Zotero plug-in works fine in the v. 2 Firefox.

Just a heads up, and my two cents. Keep up the good work and ideas.

stormy, don't give me a whopper: Mozilla Firefox 3.0.2 (and 2.0.0.17
as well) will be available just tomorrow, on September 23rd. Yep, they
move forwards the release date once again.

By the way, I run Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 on a Kingston U3 Smart flash
drive and have had no problem at all. It has never crashed nor got
slower so far (it is actually so much faster and lighter than Mozilla
Firefox 2.0.0.x) (I have Launchpad 1.6.1.2 and 1,54 GB Free). You may
have an issue with your flash drive.

AJ, any add-on for a Mozilla Firefox PC-installed build is compatible
with portable builds such as PortableApps.com's and U3 Smart's as
well.

schreiber, that's so weird, never heard before...

I'm afraid I haven't the answer for your question, but you may try these items:
■ Check your network connection and try update it once again.
■ Be sure you have installed an official build. Download Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.4 (en-US) (Mozilla U3 Smart official build) from here or from here.
■ Make a bookmarks' backup and write down all your configurations and add-ons. Then, uninstall Firefox from your U3 Smart flash drive and install it again. It may be an issue with your current installation.

Feedback and tell us if you could resolve this trouble.

what about the reported bugs in the firefox launcher anc clean up app
that was reported over on the portableapps.com site < the creator of
the Firefox U3

is there ways of fixing the bugs since the source codes rely in the
Firefox U3 directory ?

Marcos,

John T. Haller from PortableApps.com had been built Mozilla Firefox
1.5.0.xx series for the U3 Smart platform in the past. The Mozilla
Firefox 2.0.0.xx series has been created by Mozilla itself (I think).
John gave up supporting and building applications for the U3 Smart
platform because it's proprietary source, while its PortableApps.com
platform is software libre, of course.

I'm not quite sure about the bugs you mean. Could you be more specific, please?

quote from John T. Haller
"The launcher has changed a lot since Firefox 1.x. The last supported
version of Firefox for U3 was 1.5. There are a couple Firefox 2
versions for U3 floating around but none are supported, all are
outdated and all mess with the local PC and leave stuff behind.
Firefox 3 introduces even more changes than 1.5 to 2.0 so a new
launcher would need to be written."

its not a big bug but still bad defeats U3 it leaves things behind

Marcos,

Thanks again for the replying.

Of course the launcher has been enhanced a lot since Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.x! But the latest supported version of Firefox For U3 was not 1.5.0.xx, but the current Firefox 2 series. I mean, while Mozilla gives support for Firefox 2, it will include U3 Smart's builds.

I've not been warned about those Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.x bugs, but I know there were some bugs in the U3 Smart Launchpad 1.4.0.2 which left some files in a temp folder if you eject the flash drive in a sudden. As a matter of fact, in Wikipedia they tell about several issues with the Launchpad. When I asked the U3 Staff to tell about the Launchpad 1.6.1.2 changelog (if they fixed any bug and which ones) and had no replying. They just released a new Launchpad version and didn't tell why. Just a BigFish Games option and that's all.

I think (and this is my own thinking) that the Mozilla Firefox For U3 has bugs because of the Launchpad itself, but I have no evidences of these since the U3 Staff has no revealed the changelog.

If someday there is a Mozilla Firefox 3.0.n (U3 Smart build) installer file, we'll see.

I'm having a similar problem to what's mentioned above, but none of
the solutions mentioned have helped.
I HAD Firefox 3 on my U3 drive, it updated some time back and all was
good.
Then something went bad and I could no longer launch Firefox 3 from my
U3 drive, Windows kept claiming that the application did not identify
iteself correctly.
I removed Firefox, and re-installed it from the U3 menu.
Of course this was Firefox 2.0.0.4. I then couldn't install the
Google Toolbar to it because I needed to update to Firefox 3, and it's
not picking up the update.
It's really frustrating because I use the Google Toolbar alot to pick
up my bookmarks etc. Frankly without that, Firefox is no use to me as
I have no bookmarks.

I've followed the links to the other explanations for this issue, but
I'd really like to see a SOLUTION to this, or for U3 to give some
support and publish an updated Firefox3 install.
Any idea how we can push this back to them?

Bonjour à tous! :)

Before reporting a bug you will need some data:
■ Version of Windows and service pack installed (if any) (e.g. Windows XP SP3)
■ Version of U3 Launchpad (e.g. Launchpad 1.6.1.2)
■ Brand and model of the U3 Smart flash drive (e.g. SanDisk Cruzer Titanium 8GB)
■ Version of Mozilla Firefox (e.g. Mozilla Firefox 3.0.3)

■ Describe the error and how to reproduce it. Screenshots and step-by-step details will be helpful.
■ Another thing to keep in mind is testing this issue in as many PCs as you could (if possible running other Windows version and/or service packs)

If the trouble persists in different computers, tell about in this same group (I think Nathaniel Nutman from the U3 Staff read the posts often), and tell it in the Mozilla's Developer Builds usenet group (please specify this issue has been found in the U3 build of Mozilla Firefox).

Final considerations:
■ It would be better if you use the last Launchpad version (currently, 1.6.1.2)
■ There is a Mozilla Firefox for U3 2.0.0.4 + Google Toolbar included. Perhaps this toolbar is an older version than you used. Anyway, you should use Mozilla Firefox's bookmarks rather than Google's Toolbar bookmarks. And back up them often, of course. :P

Of course, Nathaniel!  I think me and anyone else would like to test it (specially if the auto-update function works ).

Just send us the downloading link and I would test between this week and the next one and you'll have my review.
