In our effort to provide the best possible complement to your formal education, the Economics Students' Association (ESA) is proud to present its second academic seminar of the year.
At the event, the following two outstanding speakers will present their research and findings: 1) Robert McMillan, B.A, M.A, Ph.D. Stanford Associate Professor, University of Toronto Topic: Public Economics and Saving Planet Earth Robert McMillan is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto, specializing in Public Economics. He grew up in West Yorkshire, England, completed his undergraduate degree at Oxford, and currently holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University. Following his undergraduate degree, he worked as an economist at the British Treasury. He is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, M.A., and has been a Visiting Fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California and a Visiting Professor at U.C. His current research examines how households choose where to live, with special emphasis placed on local amenities; how students learn, depending on the resources available; and how increased competition might affect the performance of governmental institutions (like schools). He is especially interested in the health of Planet Earth, and policies aimed at assisting it. 2) Joshua Lewis, B.A, M.A Economics Ph.D. Candidate, University of Toronto Topic: Empirical Research in Economics & Household Electrification in the USA Josh is currently pursuing his Ph.D. of Economics at the University of Toronto. He has received several graduate awards including SSHRC Doctoral Fellow, the Royal Bank Graduate Fellowship in Public and Economic Policy, and the Samuel Hollander Graduate Award. He will be working as an Assistant Professor in Economics at the Universite de Montreal in the fall. His seminar will focus on recent developments in the field of Economics of the Family. He will raise some interesting questions relevant to this field, as well as some key challenges that empirical researchers face.
