  • Hello Psychology Students!

Dr. Romin Tafarodi will be hosting an exciting seminar on student mental health. The content of the seminar is described in the abstract. This will be a discussion based seminar.

Abstract: Since the mid-1990s, we have been witnessing a significant increase in mental health problems on North American university campuses. These are the very kinds of problems that psychology students, on the face of it, are ideally positioned to have insight into. Contemporary psychology’s predominant framing of the individual as a biologically self-contained “personality” that is more or less “adapted” to an underspecified and unexamined “environment,” however, may actually hinder our ability to understand and address our increasing personal troubles as social issues emerging within a specific historical and institutional context. In this seminar, I offer some suggestions on how students might broaden their horizons so as to avoid this disciplinary framing problem.

    Refreshments will be provided.

    Sincerely,
    Psychology Students' Associations
