Greetings Illinois Zeitgeist Movement Members! There’s much to cover as usual so let’s get to it.
1000+ subscribers and growing!
Yes that’s right, as per the above tally the Illinois state chapter has passed the 1000 mark and we currently stand at 1037! I am pleased with this milestone not only in and of itself, but of the growth it reflects. Only one year ago- as noted in the Dec 1, 2009 monthly report- IL membership was 303. Doing the math that’s an astonishing 3.4X difference, or an equally astonishing annual growth rate of 242%! I hope this puts to rest the occasional remarks I hear that the Movement isn’t growing. If the Illinois chapter is any indicator, we are in fact not just growing, but growing at an exponential rate! And this growth is about to get another shot in the arm with the January release of “Zeitgeist: Moving Forward.” Speaking of which ...
“Zeitgeist: Moving Forward” Update
The anticipation within the Movement for the Jan 15 release of ZMF is so thick at this point you can cut it with a knife! (Note- the release date has been moved to Saturday Jan 15 and not Jan 16 as per last month’s newsletter.) Venues are being booked worldwide, and although the global screenings map at http://www.zeitgeistmovingforward.com/ is a bit sparse at the moment, it is bound to fill up within the weeks ahead leading up to the premier. Also, the minute the movie script is delivered by Peter to the Linguistic Team in advance, they are teed up for translations into these languages thus far: Brazilian Portuguese, Croatian, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Latvian, Macedonian, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Slovakian, Spanish, Turkish. Very exciting indeed! Also there is a ZMF “Mass Awareness via Social Media” event proposed for Dec 15th, I will keep everyone posted on that.
Closer to home, we have tentatively secured at least one venue for our showing to the public in the Chicago area, which is the MultiKulti at 1000 N. Milwaukee. A detailed schedule for the Jan 15-25 “run” (before ZMF is pushed out to the Internet) will be provided soon. Also, we will be having a special advance “press screening” of ZMF in early January, just like a real movie release, for the community of Chicago area film critics. Again, very exciting. And speaking of closer to home …
The Year in Photos
For me personally, and also a dedicated core team mainly in the Chicago area (you know who you are), the past 12 months has been a blur of activism with 11 events total. Over the months I have both shared written recaps with everyone in this newsletter and also have provided links to each related event topic in the IL Forum, each with a photo or two. But for fun, I took some time to pick the single best representative photo of each event- that is, the ones we had photos for- and published them all on one page on the IL website, under Take Action -> Photos. Enjoy! And thanks again to those who helped at all events thus far! In particular I’d like to highlight the guy in the bottom photo on the left side holding the banner and wearing his trademark fedora hat, IL TZM member Austin …
Welcome Austin, new Joliet subchapter coordinator!
It gives me great pleasure to announce the newest “official” member to the team, Austin Enriquez. Austin lives in the Joliet area and has offered to take on the Joliet subchapter coordinator position. Since I first met Austin at ZDay Chicago last March, he has shown a steady and growing dedication to the Movement. For example just recently he volunteered to step up and give the rather plain IL website a makeover with a fresh new look, and a sample of his bold new banner art is here; stay tuned. Austin cuts hair by day, which is a benefit because he is able to share TZM info with his clientele, and a bit of a Gaiaonline geek at night ;^) which in true form he is also leveraging for the Movement. I’ll let Austin take it from here in his own words in a brief self-intro:
Hello everyone,
Some of you have seen me chillin about online (GaiaOnline, TeamSpeak, Forums) as Tyrae Clouds and some of you have met me in person. My name is Austin and for nearly two years now I've dedicated myself to learning about The Zeitgeist Movement and The Venus Project. However, it was only until recently that I've really found myself wholeheartedly dedicating near 100% of my time to it. From starting up an online chapter to banner activism and much in between, I've learned a lot! I hope I can help share bits of that activism with all of you.
It's amazing to see the numbers growing; to witness more and more people coming to events and meetings, each time more educated and more excited than the time before. I really look forward to working with all of you to help bring about awareness of the movement and see even more excitement in the coming year! We have a big year ahead of us, so I hope everyone has been studying up and ready to be active!
Again, welcome Austin!
Cool film I’d like to share …
If you recall from last month’s newsletter, I said that I was taking a small break and helping out with the Linguistic Team. Well, my first transcription and proofreading project is complete and I’d like to share it with you. It’s called “Metanoia Psywars”, and it is a fascinating view into the history of the psychology behind modern day political 'perception management' as it's politely referred to, along with its roots in applied wartime propaganda. An opening remark is chilling: "Propaganda has become the primary means by which the wealthy communicate with the rest of society." Anyway, the dotsub version I completed is here, so you can also check out the subtitles that I helped transcribe and proofread.
The film struck a chord with me personally at the surreal "ultra-rich" dream sequence at about the 80-minute mark, with the romantic star-filled winter night scene and the blissful "high class" elegant Barbie & Ken couple gliding through it in the car. In my life, I've had rare and memorable “coats and tails" nights not unlike this, thinking at the time literally “It doesn't get any better than this.” And then this abrupt 'pop the balloon' realization that it was in fact all contrived and all as fake as the fog machine and 'paper moon' highway in the scene, well it made me laugh. That I'd been duped into striving for such materialistic ego-driven garbage over the years, of course conditioned into me by the "psywars" mass marketing of the day. Suffice to say, with TZM it's a whole new ball game ;^) Anyway, enjoy!
… and a cool PowerPoint I’d like to share
Love it or hate it, Part 1 of the first Zeitgeist Movie- the Religion part- caused quite a lot of interest in that film and no doubt was a contribution to it going viral on the Internet in 2007. I personally was fascinated by that section and- being a curious guy- dove into the astronomy and history parts of it to understand them in more detail. Long story short, what started out mainly as a personal study guide for understanding ‘The Christ Conspiracy’ book by Acharya S (heavily referenced in Z1 part 1), ended up turning into a bigger PowerPoint deck that related the whole religious aspect, as conveyed in Z1 part 1, to the broader Zeitgeist of today and also looking forward to the future. I named it, “Stairway to Zeitgeist: Steps to the Future by Understanding the Past.” Although I haven’t touted it much in the past, I just did some tweaks recently into a new version 2.0, and thought I'd pass it around. It is available on the Take Action -> Tool Kit page of the IL website and also linked here: PPT or PDF version. Again enjoy! WARNING: Not for the religious faint at heart!
OK that’s it for now! Keep passing out those DVDs, fliers and business cards, and as always, consider starting your own chapter in your area!

Greetings Illinois Zeitgeist Movement Members! And now back to our regularly scheduled program ;^)
New Chicago coordinator
I am pleased to announce new Chicago chapter coordinator (and kick-ass musician) David Gaines. As far back as almost a year ago (last March), David was instrumental in the success of ZDay 2010, as it was he who offered up the large community room in his apartment building as a venue, in the Edgewater neighborhood. About mid-last year David composed his gripping synthesized variation of the Zeitgeist theme music, put to a TZM video here. And then there was the mighty fine live performance with his band 'Di' that David did at the Abbey Pub social event last August. Being a good musician doesn't mean a good coordinator per se, but over time David has taken of his own initiative to step up to the commitment of the coordinator level, and we welcome it. David can be reached at dav...@tzmillinois.org.
I would also like to acknowledge outgoing coordinator Angela Schauber, whom David has replaced. I appreciate Angela’s noble dedication in working many of the TZM events last year, her organizational skills, and also for her cultivating the more social aspects of the Chicago chapter, as captured in the lively monthly meetings she hosted at her residence last fall. Thanks for the memories Ang!
Upcoming Events
Winter PeaceFest
Mark your calendars. Saturday February 12 is the first annual Winter PeaceFest, at 620 N. Lee St. in Des Plaines, and the Illinois TZM chapter has secured a booth at this one day event. Winter PeaceFest is brought to us by the same folks who brought us the Summer PeaceFest last June on the lakefront. To refresh your memories, this was one of the most successful Illinois Chapter events of last summer, where we handed out well over 500 DVDs in two days and got many newsletter signups. More info can be found at their facebook page here, and also check out the plug they gave the Movement on their blog page here! As always we are looking for volunteer staff to greet visitors and hand out DVDs at our booth. Let me or Chicago coordinator David Gaines know.
TZM in the Burbs
OK the name is a bit corny I admit. But if you live in southwest Chicagoland, also on Saturday February 12, Joliet coordinator Austin will be hosting this event at The Vine House, 807 Ruby Street, in Joliet. The event will be a screening of “Zeitgeist: Moving Forward” followed by Q&A. Doors open at 5:30PM, all ages welcome, alcohol-free show. Please let Austin know at Tyrae...@tzmillinois.org if you’ll be planning on either attending or staffing.
Screening of Z1 and Z3 in Cicero
Mark your calendars for Friday Feb 18. The screening will be at the Klas Restaurant, 5734 W. Cermak in Cicero. Props go out to Jorge and his band Waterlife Music for inviting the Movement to head up this event. Check out their website here for more info. First movie starts at 6:30PM, all ages welcome.
ZDay 2011 in March
Mark your calendars for Saturday March 12 & 13 at MultKulti, 1000 N. Milwaukee, Chicago. Details to follow, but the rough plan is to track and simulcast the live ZDay events happening in London, home of ZDay this year. The UK site doesn't have the exact breakdown of schedule up yet, but they are starting Sat March 12th with a screening of ZMF, then a Q&A with Peter. Then Sunday March 13th is their big event day with the lectures/speeches, symposium with VP Design Team modeling displayed and then a concert party at night. As Chicago is 6 hours behind London time, the live streamed events will most likely start early (like before noon) and end early, and we will build the rest of the agenda around that.
Green Festival Chicago in May
Yet another wildly successful event last year was Green Festival at Navy Pier, and we're happy to report we have secured a booth for this year as well, for May 14-15, again at Navy Pier. Details to follow. Volunteer staff welcome. Contact David or myself. http://www.greenfestivals.org/.
March 2nd 2011
Greetings Illinois Zeitgeist Movement Members! The Events seem to be coming in torrents ;^)
February Recap
Winter PeaceFest
The Winter PeaceFest took place on Saturday February 12 as planned (although at a different address at the last minute). Again Winter PeaceFest is brought to us by the same folks (IL members Jim & Tara) who brought us to the very successful Summer PeaceFest last June on the lake front. Anyway the booth was manned by Chicago coord David Gaines, regular IL member J.R., and new member Matthew. They handed out almost 100 DVD copies of "Zeitgeist Moving Forward" and got a page full of newsletter signups! Thanks guys!!
TZM in the Burbs
This event also took place on Saturday February 12, hosted by Joliet coordinator Austin. Although there was a decent turnout, I gave a close-but-wrong address for the event in last month's newsletter (!) and this probably had an impact. My sincere apologies to anyone who was inconvenienced! Anyway to quote Austin in the writeup here, "A lot of peeps hung out for quite some time after the show. playing a little guitar and chatting it up. A lot of good contacts made all around."
Screening of Z1 and Z3 in Cicero
The screening took place at the Klas Restaurant, 5734 W. Cermak in Cicero on Fri Feb 18 as planned, but due to time constraints we decided to show only "Zeitgeist: Moving Forward" and not Z1. The event was manned by Austin and myself. About 30 people attended, and a thoughtful Q&A followed. Again, props go out to Jorge and his band Waterlife Music for inviting the Movement to head up this event. Check out their website here for more info.
Upcoming Events
This Saturday March 5: POT LUCK!/Zeitgeist Trilogy Screening
Check out the details on the discussion thread here regarding Chicago coord David Gaine's spontaneous get-together he is planning. Bring some food (optional) and an appetite, and enjoy this (perhaps first ever) Zeitgeist film Marathon!
Next Tuesday March 8: TZM Illinois on Chicago Public Access Cable!
OK I admit I kept this one under wraps- mainly because it was so tentative until it actually went down- so now it's a nice surprise! First this quick background: At the invitation of IL member Tony Harper, who was familiar with this non-profit from a previous life, I joined him for a one-day "Introduction to Video Production" bootcamp session last December, at Chicago Access Network TV or CAN-TV (
http://www.cantv.org) downtown. At its conclusion we both agreed cable was indeed yet another good medium for getting the ZM word out. And although my busy schedule didn't allow for it, Tony elected to take the next step and plowed ahead with the follow-on in-depth coursework, which he recently completed, and so is now qualified to actually *use* the equipment and produce a show! And that's exactly what we did! With Tony as host and me as guest, we did the show in one take last Saturday afternoon, and it came out- well, great! So good in fact it was decided by the co-director that no time-consuming editing phase was needed, and as a result it will be airingnext Tuesday March 8 at 8PM
on channel 21, instead of the usual 1-month or so production/editing cycle till air.
SO, for anyone in the city of Chicago with even basic cable, enjoy the show! If well received, we will be looking to do more!Next Sat & Sun, March 12-13: ZDay 2011 in Chicago
Are your calendars marked? Of course they are! See you at MultKulti, 1000 N. Milwaukee, Chicago, 4th floor next weekend! Keeping in mind we are tracking the events in London, 6 hours ahead of us and thus starting early, the rough agenda is:
Sat 3-12
9:30AM - doors open
10:00-11:30 - Stream Peter's live Q&A from London
11:30-12:00 - Our own Q&A
12:00-1PM - pot luck lunch
1PM-2PM - guest speaker (tentative)
2PM-6PM - Screening of selected short ZM vids and other media, with Q&A breaks
6PM-7PM - dinner break/socialize
7PM- 1AM - Z party, bands (tentative), etc.
Sun
8:30A - 4PM - Stream Zday live from London. This is their big event day with the multiple lectures (one by Peter), symposium with the VP Design Team modeling displayed, etc.
Optional- screen our own videos, etc.
Free parking is *across the street* from the building. One parting note about Chicago's ZDay: Even we thought it was a longshot at the time, i.e, it seemed certain it would have aired afterward, Tony and I *did* plug the ZDay Chicago event at MultiKulti during the CAN-TV filming! So since it is in fact airing early (on Tues the 8th), that promo will be seen in advance by the Chicago CAN-TV viewer community. So this could give attendance a real shot in the arm! See you there! Topic post is here.
April Event (TBD)
Green Festival Chicago in May
(Repeat) Yet another wildly successful event last year was Green Festival at Navy Pier, and we're happy to report we have secured a booth for this year as well, for May 14-15, again at Navy Pier. Details to follow. Volunteer staff welcome. Contact David or myself. Venue info is at http://www.greenfestivals.org/.
PARTING ITEMS
OK that's all for now!
Greetings TZM Illinois Members, and- as of the vernal equinox on March 20- happy Spring!
Past Month Recap
3-12,13: ZDay Chicago
The ZDay event at MultiKulti in Chicago was a moderate success, although turnout could have been better. On Sat AM we opened with the original excellent 1974 Larry King interview with Jacque Fresco. This was followed by an equally excellent mix DVD composed by Austin, which showcased a variety of member-composed videos. The idea here was to highlight that the Movement is not just about Peter, Jacque and Roxanne. As usual there was thoughtful Q&A along the way, then we broke for a pot luck lunch. In the PM, yours truly took the stage, and I presented my ‘Stairway to Zeitgeist’ lecture and slide deck, which seemed to go over well. Chicago coord David Gaines then stepped up and prepared a big spaghetti dinner at ~6PM, and it was polished off in short order!
Sunday was tamer as it consisted of sitting and watching the live video stream from London for the entire day. Along with Peter's opening and closing, there was a full lineup of very good presenters. On youtube, search “zday 2011 London” for those vids, or simply “zday 2011” for videos made worldwide!
3-16: Aurora “Zeitgeist Addendum” screening
I’d like to send out BIG props to IL member Ken Ottinger for getting fired up and putting this event together on short notice. It took place at the Midtown Pub in Aurora, in a separate back section of the bar. Besides Ken, coords in attendance were myself and Austin. Attendance was somewhat light due to the short notice and, towards the end of the film, the rising din the happy bar patrons in the front room started to make it hard to hear the audio. But in all it was a great first step for Ken and again I applaud his efforts!
4-5: Aurora “Zeitgeist: Moving Forward” screening
Once again Ken took action and put this event together in short order, this time at The End Zone Bar in Aurora. Again Austin and I were in attendance, and again there was “competition” from the bar crowd by the end of the film. Oh well, the lesson learned here is to aim for a somewhat quieter venue, say at a library on a Saturday afternoon. Ken still gets a big thumbs up from me for being that one person in a thousand (literally) to stand up and build an event on his own, not once but twice!
Upcoming Events
April 17 TeamSpeak event (link here)
Have you ever thought of taking it to the next level in the Movement, perhaps stepping up to a coordinator role? It’s not as hard as you think, and we’re about to walk you through the first step: Understanding and internalizing the Movement Orientation Video. We will be doing this live on TeamSpeak on Sunday April 17th. The meeting opens online at 7:00PM. The goal here is to get those that are more interested on the same page with the rest of the Movement. Open to all. See you online.
April 22 Orientation Video in Joliet (Link here)
More props to Austin for setting this live equivalent up as well, at The Vine House, 807 Vine St., Joliet, IL 50435. The event starts at 9PM and will be followed by a Q&A. Afterwards, hang out with local bands and join in on some late night jams!
May 14-15 Green Festival Chicago
Hey Chicagoland members, get fired up! This was one of the biggest if not *the* biggest TZM-IL event last year. See you at Navy Pier: http://www.greenfestivals.org/chi/updates/. WE NEED STAFFERS FOR THIS EVENT, to meet and greet Fest attendees, hand out DVDs, etc. Step right up!
June 17-19 Chicago Peace Fest on the Lakefront
Hot fun in the summertime! This was also a great TZM-IL event last year.http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chicago-Peace-Fest/107420245952134
July 8-10 Artivist Weekend in Chicago
We have a few leads for a venue but nothing solid, and we need to finalize this is a hurry, as Artivist is about to start promoting the event on their website! If ANYONE in the Chicagoland area has a lead on a reasonably priced indoor or outdoor venue for this weekend please let me know ASAP, or we risk forfeiting this joint collaboration effort between TZM and Artivist in Chicago!

Past Month Recap
May 14-15 Green Festival Chicago
The Festival was a blast! As expected, the crowds were thick and the DVDs were flying! Thanks go to Melissa and Amanda for coming over from the Indiana chapter on the first day and helping staff the booth, and also to local coords David Gaines and Austin for their staffing and crowd canvassing. We got many interested visitors, nodding heads, and newsletter signups. By the way, no doubt this contributed to the massive jump in our IL subscriber membership above. Did you notice? Last month’s IL count was 1234, this month’s (above) is 1431, which means almost 200 new subscribers in one month! Wow!
So a special warm welcome to all the Green Festival visitors that signed up for TZM-IL at our booth!Along with others that simply signed up at the IL website. Please, take a moment to check out our website atwww.tzmillinois.org, follow the 3 steps shown to get started, and do consider also joining the Illinois discussion group, the Global Forum, and TeamSpeak!
Chicago TZM Speaks with John Perkins at Chicago Green Festival (link here)
During Green Festival, Chicago coord David Gaines and the rest of the booth staffers had the opportunity to chat with guest speaker John Perkins, author of the bestselling book Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, and also featured prominently in Part II of Peter Joseph’s second movie Zeitgeist Addendum. Anyway the audio is pretty washed out due the background noise so David also provided subtitles as an aid. As you can see Mr. Perkins is a very personable fellow. Enjoy!
Stairway to Zeitgeist/Z-TV Chicago June Episode Trailer (link here)
As I mentioned back in the March newsletter, TZM-IL member-turned-producer Tony Harper kicked off the opening show of his creation Stairway to Zeitgeist: What’s Relevant, in conjunction with CAN-TV, which airs monthly to millions of Chicago residents through public access cable. I was the guest on the first two show tapings, and Chicago coord David Gaines stepped up for the third in late May. Not only did he do a fine show with Tony, but he mixed down this superb 2 ½ minute trailer for your enjoyment. Very well done David! Z-TV Chicago volunteer positions will be determined soon for helping with the set and other show production tasks. Volunteers: feel free to apply and express interest before positions are officially announced.
Upcoming Events
June 17-19 Chicago Peace Fest on the Lakefront next weekend (link here)
Hot fun in the summertime! This was also a great TZM-IL event last year. Live bands, fun crowds, peace and love! We need 3-5 volunteers to help with the Peace Fest, to man the booth and to speak with people who have questions about the Movement, as well as to hand out DVDs and Artivist Festival invites. For more info or to volunteer to staff, contact me at my address below or just show up.
June 21: Los Angeles TownHall event online (link here)
This is an idea that Movement founder Peter Joseph has been promoting for some time. Local “town hall” meetings, or local community gatherings by any other name, are a more traditional way to meet others socially in order to educate and raise awareness. Check it out and then ask yourself, “How about in my town?” Perhaps at the local library or other quiet venue. Think about it. You don’t need to be a coordinator to do this. Just do it!
July 8-10: Artivist Weekend in Chicago (link here)
The time is getting near for this highly anticipated joint collaboration event between The Zeitgeist Movement and Artivist Film Festival, which will include for the first time, vendors. Tickets will go on sale very soon atwww.tzmillinois.org. We need 5 volunteers. Positions include: making sure people have bracelets entering the festival, selling tickets, cuing/stopping movies, and general help/festival maintenance. For more info or to volunteer to staff, contact event coordinator David Gaines at dav...@tzmillinois.org.
August 13-14: The 10th annual Illinois Renewable Energy Fair (link here)
There was a very good visitor turnout last year, and this year will certainly top it. It’s out of the city a ways- actually about 100 miles west of downtown Chicago, at the Ogle Country Fairgrounds near Oregon IL, but worth the trip. The Illinois Renewable Energy Association (IREA) supports sustainable energy development in Illinois. The IREA provides hands-on opportunities for the Illinois public to learn about the benefits, potentials, and uses of renewable energy and energy-efficiency for our homes and businesses. Talk about a great affinity group!
Sept 11: Zeitgeist Media Festival (link here)
The venue of the Zeitgeist Media Festival in Chicago is yet to be determined, but thanks to Joliet coord Austin we already have several bands booked! There are many staffing positions for this and more will open up, but the basics being: Booth management, ticketing, checking for bracelets, stage setups and breakdowns, festival maintenance. For more info or to volunteer to staff, contact event coordinator Austin attyrae...@tzmillinois.org.
Closing thoughts: On Volunteering (by David Gaines)
If you’ve been following the newsletter for a while, maybe you’ve noticed most of the events are run by Dave S, David G, Austin, and Tony at the studio. To recap the above, between staffing regular events, hosting a film festival, throwing a media festival, and launching a TV show, we’ve got some serious events and projects occurring here. So it then comes as no surprise that these Illinois activities are getting too big for its current staff alone, and to provide the attention needed to properly maintain and advance our ever growing network, we are going to need bright people to step up. Yep, we are in search of talented, intelligent people who want to step up and contribute to strengthening and developing the overall information network that is your local Zeitgeist Movement. We need everything, from people simply volunteering time to check bracelets at the doors of events, to doing news segments on TV.
We also need other volunteers to not just step up for these single events or projects but most importantly, we need people to really be self-initiated action takers. People who say, “_____ is what I enjoy doing, and so I’m going to contribute that to the Movement.” That blank, can be a facebook group that you upkeep. It can be a lecture that you put together. I can be news relaying to an established chapter. It can be putting together a newsletter like this one. It could be creating a local website. It could even be- dare I say- starting a chapter in your area!
That’s all for now! Get fired up for a great summer in Illinois! (Have you handed out a DVD lately?)

Greetings TZM Illinois Members! Lots to cover in this issue.
Past Month Recap
June 18-19 Chicago Peace Fest on the Lake
Once again this year the Peace Fest was an absolute blast! Music, peace and smiles all around, and crowds. HUGE crowds. On Saturday alone we gave out 600 DVDs, our stock for the entire weekend! But the really cool thing about this year compared to last year is that many more visitors actually heard of the Movement or at least the movies. Just like at the Green Festival in May, we got many interested visitors, nodding heads, and newsletter signups. Thanks go to members Anthony and Nicholas for stepping up to assist with staffing, to local coords David Gaines and Austin, and to Brad Davis and his wife Michele, who drove over from their Quad Cities Area (QCA-TZM) chapter. Check out the pix on the IL website at http://www.tzmillinois.org/community/photo-album. Remember to click the image to start the slideshow!
Also a special warm welcome to all the Peace Fest visitors that signed up for TZM-IL at our booth! Along with others that simply signed up at the IL website. Please, take a moment to check out our website at www.tzmillinois.org, follow the 3 steps shown to get started, and do consider also joining the Illinois discussion group, the Global Forum, and TeamSpeak!
July 8-10 Artivist Film Festival Chicago
This highly anticipated joint collaboration event between The Zeitgeist Movement and Artivist Film Festival, including vendors for the first time, was- I am sorry to say- a dud. Less that ~10 visitors showed up total and only 2 vendors. In hindsight it was concluded that fall or winter would be a better time to have this event, when people go back indoors. Or perhaps that wouldn’t matter in cities like Chicago, because of the lack of a strong supportive film community to begin with. Oh well, you can’t win them all.
Upcoming Events
Stairway to Zeitgeist/Z-TV Chicago: New Episode Airs Tomorrow!
Chicago cable subscribers, listen up! The latest installment of TZM-IL member-turned-producer Tony Harper’s creation Stairway to Zeitgeist: What’s Relevant, in conjunction with CAN-TV, airs tomorrow, July 14 in Chicago! Specifically:
· July 14th @ 8:00PM Channel 19
· July 15th @ 3:00PM Channel 19
· July 23rd @ 12:00PM Channel 19
This latest episode again has as its guest Chicago coord David Gaines, always a crowd pleaser! Also look for a new promotional trailer on youtube, whipped up by Tony. Z-TV Chicago volunteer positions will be determined soon for helping with the set and other show production tasks. Volunteers: feel free to apply and express interest before positions are officially announced.
July 29-31 Chicago Peace Fest Campout in Elgin IL (link here)
Just when you thought Peace Fest was over till next year, well- it’s not. The 1st annual Peace Fest Campout is right around the corner. We’re not sure what to expect but it’s bound to be a fun crowd. And Austin is working on getting a vendor booth with electricity so he can do some Zeitgeist film screenings. More on this to follow.
The Illinois Renewable Energy Association (IREA) supports sustainable energy development in Illinois, and provides hands-on opportunities for the Illinois public to learn about the benefits, potentials, and uses of renewable energy and energy-efficiency for our homes and businesses. Talk about a great affinity group! As always we need staffers. Contact event coordinator Austin at tyrae...@tzmillinois.org.
Sept 11: Zeitgeist Media Festival (link here)
Thanks to Joliet coord Austin for locking in a great venue for this event: Klas Restaurant in Cicero. Austin even made a cool Walkthrough vid of the restaurant here. And we already have several bands booked! There are many staffing positions for this and more will open up, but the basics being: Booth management, ticketing, checking for bracelets, stage setups and breakdowns, festival maintenance. For more info or to volunteer to staff, contact event coordinator Austin at tyrae...@tzmillinois.org.

As in contributions that is. Check out the new Pitchin widget Austin set up on the IL website at http://www.tzmillinois.org/. As you can see our first project is to raise $50 for the Peace Fest Campout booth fee, as mentioned above. Look gang, maybe you’re not ready to be visibly active in the Movement like the core team in Chicago; that’s OK. But until you are, please consider financially assisting others that are active and working it by contributing to overhead expenses. That’s right, to get a “booth” spot at many of these events is not free, and we could sure use your help in covering costs. Thank You!
I’m Not Leaving, Only Moving
I had the opportunity with my daytime employer to transfer to Orlando Florida, to help open up new territory there. After much consideration around the beneficial impact to my career and also around my personal life, I decided to accept the offer. The transition date is August 1, less than 3 weeks away. And since it doesn't make much sense to be the IL state coord when I am living in Florida, this means that I will be resigning as IL state coord. Replacement candidates are welcome to step up and contact me.
I want to assure everyone that I AM NOT LEAVING THE ZEITGEIST MOVEMENT. On the contrary, after 1.5 years of serving as IL coord my focus and dedication has never been greater! That said, I anticipate perhaps taking just a small break from the hectic pace I've been keeping, and also spending more time helping out with the backlog of proofreading/subtitling projects on the Linguistics Team. So please, let's all stay in touch!
That’s all for now
