Dear Maria

I am researching with a French colleague the timezone history of France.

ACS atlas has had a big change for France history: Up to the 5th (1999)
edition of International atlas, and up to 2002 edition of PC atlas they
used 153 different tables to represent the history of France, which is
complexe due to a lot of local changes during the German occupation in
May and June 1940, and the process of liberation from June 1944 to the
end of the war in may 1045.

In International atlas 6th edition and PC atlas 2003 and later, the
information was totally changed and the number of tables was reduced to 28.

There exist several printed sources in French historical literature,
which tend neither to agree with the older ACS atlas nor with the more
recent one.

Can you answer, or forward to the responsible persons to answer, these
simple questions, please:

a) on which sources is the change of the ACS atlas from 153 tables to 28
table, i.e. the current information in ACS atlas for France based?
I presume there must have been some publication between 1999 and 2003 in
France which led to the change in ACS data, but I have yet failed to
identify this publication. We would like to contact the author of this
publication to ask some questions.

b) what was the original source which led to the creation of 153 tables
(can probably be only answered by Thomas Shanks)?

If you have followed the publications submitted to tzdata in the past
few weeks about our group's timezone history research, you will have
noticed that in each area researched (Germany, Texas, Alabama,
California), there have been documented results which differed
substantially from the current information in ACS atlas.

I think that cooperation in research is what is in the interest of the
astrological community, which does not need an un-sourced bible to
believe in but active research and documented sources.

Sincerely

Alois Treindl
