LILYGOTTGO T-Echo is a version evolved from LILYGO T-BEAM. At the beginning of the design, more consideration was to adapting to Meshtastic.
so Bluetooth and low-power consumption were considered when designing, and NRF52840 Advanced Bluetooth 5 was selected thread and Zigbee multiprotocol SoC.
The LORA function continues T-BEAM's LILYGO SX1262 version functional module.
T-SX1262 wireless transceiver module, using Semtech SX1262 LORA RF transceiver chip design, working in the 868/915MHz ISM frequency band, integrated high stability TCXO 32MHz crystal oscillator, half-duplex transceiver module, power up to +22dBm, receiving sensitivity -139dBm. Automatic transceiver Switching, internal transmission, and reception channel isolation, advanced LORA spread spectrum communication technology, strong anti-interference, and privacy can realize long-distance wireless data
This should be a "premium" all-in-one Lora device . It has a clever board design, good components and a good literature. Unfortunately, the 915Mhz antenna is completely useless and I will have to pay more to fix this problem. If someone from the development team is reading this, please do something.
I like the hardware a lot. Everything works as it should. The only problem was that I had to dump the Meshtastic code and reload with APRS code. LilyGo hardware also works great with the APRS code, and as a ham I am happier with the community support for this in my region.
Doing rangetest with a Station G2 in a suburban area, I got 450meters of range to the T-echo with the supplied antenna. I've tried several other antennas. The last has a SWR of about 1.2, range was 1.1km. Much less than I had hoped for. Otherwise, my t-echo works well for short range.
I really like this with Meshtastic firmware. All in one ready to use. I think the reset button should be flush with the case to prevent accidental resets, but, alternative buttons can be printed from various sources if needed. Enjoying messing with it, it's my go to portable Meshtastic node.

T-Echos are quite expensive but would be good for hiking. So I have two but they do not work. One is definitely dud and would not even get a fix on SoftRF. The second works well on SoftRF and gets a stable gps fix. But never functions on meshtastic.
I wanted to poll the forum - are T-Echos generally reliable? There are a few comments on the Forum about them - nothing obviously suggesting they are often faulty. But I just wanted to check. Is it worth me buying another two units as I have just been unlucky? Thanks!
Mine works with SoftRF, but with none of the meshtastic firmware versions, neither from the Meshtastic GitHub nor from LilyGo.
I have the version without BME - has anyone managed to get Meshtastic installed on this one?
If I install meshtastic and then go back to SoftRF, SoftRF remembers the previous settings - I would expect those to be wiped, but I am stuck as to how to proceed.
Short update on what fixed the T-echo problems I was reporting:
I ordered a Segger J-link which arrived today and followed the instructions here to erase the chip and then burn a new version of the bootloader.
I then installed 1.2.46.dce2fe4 alpha and the T-echo is now finally working!
Hi @Nanovitruvius this is great! Do you have a link to the J-link you used? I am in the UK so I was hoping to find a local supplier but I need to make sure I get something equivalent to yours. Thanks a lot for this work to fix the t-echo.
@kokroo - Having bought 6 T-beams in various flavours, 2 RAK4631 and the T-Echo, I very much favour the RAK4631 over the rest. The quality is better than the others, and the power efficiency and size are on par with the T-Echo. In addition you can solar charge if you want, and expand the board in the future with sensors etc.
Dev board return policyDevelopment boards are specialty items that generally cannot be resold on return, especially if the firmware has been flashed. Defective boards can be replaced or returned for refund within 30 days of purchase. Non-defective boards can be returned in the same time frame if in like-new condition with a 20 percent restocking fee applied. If the board has had altered firmware or became bricked due to a non-standard firmware flash, the board may not be eligible for return.
Expedited shipping orders placed before 3PM EST weekdays will ship that day. Standard shipping orders ship within 1 business day.

For non-defective returns over $500, a restocking fee may be deducted from the refund to cover bank or card processing fees.
Backorder/Preorder
Items on backorder or preorder will ship as estimated on the item page. You can cancel an order any time up until shipment. Orders with expedited shipping will arrive in the advertised time after the order ships, not after the order is placed.

I am very happy with these t-echos. For a user friendly plug and play system these are unbeatable. The battery life is better than I expected compared to other meshtastic devices, and the E-ink screen is a great feature. Upgraded antennas are a must. I will definitely be buying more of these to expand my tribe's communication abilities.
