How to connect to EC2 instance in java

I have been trying to monitor the amazon instance remotely. But since
that remote machine has architecture defined by an instance it might
not have java on it. If it doesn't have java on it we can't install
it.Is it possible to still establish remote desktop application. if
yes then can anyone tell me how?
