hi,

with the new pricing on GAE released by google, im curious (or rather
concerned) what will be the effect on future development of tae. will
this be continued, or will slowly die? quiet frankly, i feel deceived
by google on using python on gae. i just hope tae stay alive and
active. thank you.

I definitely don't want to step on Tobias' toes by responding here,
but I am actively working on a component for TAE. I know Tobias and
several other developers are too.

I'm sure Tobias can provide a more informative answer.

Hi Edel,

This is a great question! Let me try to answer it by giving an
overview of the next (giant) steps for TyphoonAE. First and foremost,
regardless of any changes in the pricing model for Google App Engine,
development of TAE will definitely continue. Since it was never
intended to be a direct competitor in terms of scalability, it aims at
being a valuable alternative for advanced developers to run an GAE/
Python-API compatible, high-performance stack on their own hardware (a
small cluster maybe).

Besides that, I'm extremely happy that people like Florian, Robert,
Bart, Rodrigo, Joaquin, Ivan and more contribute ideas, criticism and
code. That's awesome!

We want to make the install process as easy as possible. Using
zc.buildout for development was just a start and I know we're not
there yet. That's why we discussed some possible solutions in the
#typhoonae IRC channel. A Debian package could be an alternative, and
I'm already tinkering on a curses based setup wizzard.

As already discussed in this group, another huge challenge is a
production-quality Datastore backend. MongoDB works quite well but is
limited (e.g. no transactions). MySQL turned out to be a nice
experiment but doesn't perform very well on large datasets. However,
there's nothing to announce yet.

Furthermore, catching up with the latest changes in the GAE SDK 1.5.0
is on top of my list. There's much more to do like a management
console, better logging, a scalable urlfetch service, to name just a
few.

Anybody is invited to help on this, so, spread the word if you like.

Best regards,
Tobias

hi tobias,

i am very happy with your statement. very reassuring. i will continue

introducing it to friends.

thank you for keeping this project alive. more power to you and to all
devs & contributors.

Hi again,

I just checked out the main branch and it seems to be working quite nicely with GAE SDK 1.6.0. Just wondering how stable would you consider that and maybe when would you expect to have a final release?

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Tobias,

I imagine that you're very busy with all kinds of stuff, but still am really wondering if you could maybe suggest a timeline for when TAE could be available with GAE SDK 1.6 support?

I'm trying to run a Pubsubhubbub on my TAE 0.2 and there's just too many things simply missing since the latest PSHB is writter for GAE 1.6.. Not really sure what to do next, but knowing what the future of TAE holds would certainly help.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Cheers,
Martin
