Can we use the 106 layout and colemak at the same time?

I'm afraid the answer is no, but I thought I would ask anyway. 

I want to learn colemak but I really need to reprogram some buttons (the desktop key probably) because the control keys are too hard to press for me (heavy emacs user =/)

As a bonus question, if anyone has a good idea to make the control key more accessible I would like to hear it.
