Door Check Straps

The Type 3 door check straps have been a continuing problem. I see that
ISP shows no stock and wanted $70 for one when they had them.

Has anyone come up with a good solution? I've toyed with casting
polyurethane pucks to replace the OE rubber that crumbles, but if someone
has a better solution I'd like to hear about it.

A bit of searching revealed replacment rubber pucks on cip1.com. I just
ordered a few. Unfortunately, the rubber parts are not the only thing that fails
on these.

I received the replacement rubber pucks for the door check straps and
managed to rebuild 2 old straps from parts I had saved over the years. I've
got more parts that could be used to fix others, in case any of you have
noticed the need.

I've been puzzled as to why I seem to find the door check straps with one
anchor eyelet broken off, I think I figured out why this happens. If you
remove that strap to do something on the door, it's tempting to put it back
without reinstalling the circlip that holds the anchor pin in place. With that
circlip missing, the pin might somehow work it's way upwards until only one
of the eyelets is engaged. Once that happens, all the stress is concentrated
in the remaining eyelet, which may eventually break.

The moral to this is: Always replace the snap ring. If you can't find the snap
ring, you're probably better off finding a suitably large common nail and
using 1" of the head end instead of the short OE pin.

I have a couple straps with one or both eyelets broken off. I'll try to figure out
a way to do a repair for this.
