The WiFi adapter works fine on Windows because CD-ROM pops up with appropriate drivers when it's plugged in. But on Arch Linux the driver doesn't show up as a network interface, but the device is recognized. I've tried modprobe'ing sr9700, dm9601 and installed usb_modeswitch and did whatever I could find relating to those but nothing works. The adapter Model No. is ky-rd9700-22

It worked on a XTC321 Usb 2.0 RJ45 fast ethernet adapter" Was this review helpful? (Report this) 26 of 28 people found the following review helpful: Joris R

If the driver listed is not the right version or operating system, search our driver archive for the correct version. Enter Corechips RD9700 USB2.0 To Fast Ethernet Adapter into the search box above and then submit. In the results, choose the best match for your PC and operating system.

The cable is actually connected to a wireless bridge (got an Edimax device from MSY for about $35). Configured it with my phone and has been working flawlessly for a few months now (Ethernet over Power was very flaky and slow).

Hope this helps.
It does, thanks. If you ever try some of the cheap USB ethernet adapters on ebay, update us if you can. I have had zero luck with both my Lenovo & Asus tablets. I bought 3 separate cheapies.

I tried a Lenovo at OfficeWorks (the A10-70 from memory) and it had the Ethernet option in the connections setting, but the Apple device was never recognised after plugging it in. I did some research and found on a forum that you need to have Android 5 or better to get this to work. Unfortunately I couldn't get the Android 5 update to work in the shop, but others had reported that it did work.

I did find one of the 7" Lenovos as well that was already at Android 5, and plugging it in id did recognise the Apple device. There is a newer Lenovo now (A10-30 I think) that did not seem to have the Ethernet option.

However, my Moto G phone doesn't have the Ethernet option either, but I did get it to work. I used a program called WiFi Connection and it has some networking tools like Ping and the like built in. On the phone I pinged the router (or google) after turning off the WiFi and got packets back, so it looked like it worked OK.

From this I concluded that some devices may work, but just don't have the user interface to recognise or configure it. Noticed there were some Android apps that look like they might expose the configuration, but haven't tried them.

I'm now looking for a micro USB hub that can connect the USB Ethernet adapter and also the charger at the same time, so if I stumble across any USB Ethernet adapters I might get one if the price is right.

From this I concluded that some devices may work, but just don't have the user interface to recognise or configure it.
Yes, read this too. Need to try more things I guess...or buy a Samsung one day and test my luck.
