Subject: Prayer Requests

We watched our last DVD from the series "When Helping Hurts". Thank you Nathan for leading us through this study.
Here is a brief review of the series:
- Poverty= broken relationships
- We can't help others until we recognize our own "poverty" in our lives
- Helping people: starts with a crisis, they dip down and get relief, then go back up with rehab and development (difficult to explain w/o the drawing, sorry)
- Important to take an Asset Based Approach: find out what they are good at and assist them in achieving those goals
- Fostering change: Many people in poverty need supportive people around them to help them change

Yesterday, we talked about Moving Forward. We talked about how all of us need each other= we all need God. We need to meet in the middle: we need to humble ourselves & once those in poverty elevate their views of self= we meet in the middle and realize we are all the same. Our role in suburban churches is to pray for people who will pay for others to hang out with those in need/ provide financial support.
Important Principles to Remember:
- Focus on the relationship, not just on what you're trying to accomplish
- You need them
- Shared control
- Have them put "skin in the game" : they need to contribute something

Prayer Requests:
- Amanda T.: Pray for Brian's granddad. He is in the hospital and is not doing well.
- Walls: Pray for their son, Patrick. He has an abscess tooth and is in a lot of pain.
- Farrow's: Praise,  they close on their house this Friday.
- Please continue to pray for the Hanner Family. Macey received good news today about baby Sadie. Her tummy looks much better today and they are not projecting surgery at this time. Also, praise that Hunter is making progress with his motor control. Pray for him as he still has a long journey ahead of him.
