News Feb/March 2012   TYA England EC meets Birmingham on 2nd March. Steering Group:  London 11 June tbc. 15 December 2011 Minutes are here.   TYA-UK Board meets 19 March at Agor Drysau Open Doors Festival in Aberystwyth.      Nina Hajiyianni represents UK at ASSITEJ EC in Baku, Azerbaijan 20-26 Feb. International ASSITEJ has a new-look website    ASSITEJ France is refounded in Paris on 6th Feb. A broader grouping of artists, companies and presenters has created a more outward-looking National Centre.  Bienvenue à Bord! Katie Boon of Paper Balloon Theatre is a new member of TYA-UK Board. She writes here on the 2011 Gathering in Kilkenny, the annual all-Ireland meeting of TYA artists, with discussions and shows.

Tom Spencer Tom Spencer has died. He was a pioneer of TIE in the 1960’s who led York YPT and later Billingham TIE. That grew into Cleveland Inde­pendent Theatre, which now trades as Theatre Hullabaloo. Later on, Tom taught generations of young actors at York St John College, now a University.

Tom was a keen follower of Welfare State’s community theatre ethos, and worked on the annual Bonfire event at the Cleveland coastal village of Skinningrove. An independent mind and a strong example to his peers. His rich archive of material on early work at CTC will be available to researchers at Rose Bruford College in the near future. PH
