All,
It has taken far too long, but alas, we have secured the initial
commitment necessary to expand the professional development offerings
related to Texas Studies that we have previously discussed. If you
take a look at
http://www.tshaonline.org/education/teachers/exploringtexas,
you can see the skeleton outline of what we have envisioned beginning
to take shape. For internal purposes, we at TSHA have given this
project an umbrella name, the ExploringTexas Workshop Series, which
intentionally left the word "history" out so that it could/should
encompass the other stands that exist in the 4th and 7th Grade courses
such as geography, economics and government/citizenship. The 2nd and
3rd years will minimally include a 4th workshop, El Paso in 13-14 and
Brownsville in 14-15. In addition we have already secured an annual
sponsorship for the August workshops dealing with Texas settlement and
we continue to work on others.
Now that we have a skeleton, it is time to put some meat on its bones.
We are working with staff at the host institutions to identify quality
content, presenters, and exhibitors for each of these workshops. This
is where we had envisoned this group having the biggest impact by both
participating and helping identify quality presenters among our
various disciplines and resource networks. If you are interested in
being part of this effort please let me know. Once we have the
determined level of interest, I would like to schedule a conference
call to answer any questions and establish a plan for moving forward.
Sincerely,
Steve
