I'm interested to join as a "tinkerer" but have a tough time making Friday open house or the Sunday Pancake time. The last time I visited y'all were still in the old space.  Does anyone keep an updated list of major equipment available and are there any mid-week "tinker times"?
In particular I'm interested if you have any of the following equipment:

Kiln- for firing pottery casts
Foundry- for iron casting
3d scanning capabilities

We have two kilns, a foundry, and foam milling equipment for doing lost foam casting. 3D scanning is not a fixture as of yet, but there are some software utilities that might work depending on the application you're interested in.

I tend to drop in, there's almost always someone here on weekdays, but I can understand your desire for a schedule if you're driving a distance. Could someone clarify good "tinker times"?

As of yet, I don't believe we have a foundry capable of melting iron. All the foundry work I have seen at the lab was with aluminium.
However, I think that building an iron foundry is something that would possible for us to do and would be an interesting project.

Melting iron is a pretty big step up from melting aluminum.

The hackerspace in Madison, Wisconsin does a big iron pour every year.  There’s some good video of their equipment, setup and rig.  Looks like lots of work but could be really interesting.
