My name is Marcelo Urieta-Bravo, and it is my pleasure to serve as your 2014-2015 Governor for the Mighty Texas-Oklahoma District of CKI! On behalf of the District Board of Officers we would like to wish everyone a Happy CKI New Year, and hope you are ready to have a great summer vacation. Whether your summer plans consist of working a summer job, attending the CKI International Convention, or strictly just catching up on all that lost sleep, I hope that this season brings you happiness and allows for you to catch up with family and friends. And don't forget that even during the summer, CKI has many opportunities for you to participate in!
With that being said, I would like to bring a few things to your attention:
2014-2015 District Goals
Here are the goals for our Mighty Texas-Oklahoma District:
13,500 Service Hours
- 12,500 hours from General Membership
- 1,000 hours from the District Board of Officers
300 Interchapter Hours
350 Paid Members
3 Charters/Reactivations
- Host 2 Book Drives
- Participate in 4 Literacy Service Projects
- Fundraise $1,000 per Division for a total of $5,000 for the District
District Events Attendance
- Fall Retreat Attendance: 85 attendees
- District Convention Attendance: 125 attendees
Each District Board Member will sell at least 1 Legacy Fund Membership

There are a number of club awards that you can apply for, such as the International Club Achievement Award, Club Newsletter Award, Club T-shirt Award, Club Video Award, Club Website Award, Non-Traditional and Traditional Scrapbooks, Outstanding Kiwanis Family Relations, Service Partners Award, The ELIMINATE Project Award,and the Oratorical Contest. The applications for these awards can be found here, and may be turned in at the registration desk on the first day of CKIx.
2014 CKI Leadership Academy
Every year in Morgantown, Indiana, CKI members from all over the world meet to participate in a six day leadership retreat that helps up-and-coming Circle K members realize their full potential as servant leaders in and outside of our organization. This experience is like no other and the lessons and memories you acquire from this trip will stay with you for the rest of your lives. I truly encourage you all to apply to be a member of the 2014 Leadership Academy Class.
Leadership Academy will be held from Sunday, July 27th through Friday, August 1st. For more information click [HERE] and if you want to apply to attend the event, click [HERE]! Once you submit your application, you'll be consider for our district's scholarship that will cover the registration fee for ONE T-O CKI member. Applications will be accepted for Leadership Academy through Monday, July 7. If you do not receive the scholarship but are accepted into Leadership Academy, you are of course still allowed to attend this great event!
A Quick Message to the Class of 2014:
If you are graduating this month, congratulations! You are moving on to the next step of your life, whether it be graduate school or a full-time career! Either way, know that your K-Family journey isn’t over yet—you can stay connected with CKI by joining CKI Alumni. Find out more at www.circlek.org/seniors. Additionally, you can continue in a lifetime of service by joining your local Kiwanis club.
