Hi,
I found that most likely when I did a bios update, my power plan was changed from “HP Recommended” to “High Performance”, since I noticed that the fan was cycling on and off where not previously. When I switched to HP Recommended, my machine was not shutting down from overheating much any more, though I think it may have recently when I was away from it.
Anyway, this is a complete pain as my previous laptop, a Sager, did the same thing and eventually burned out the GPU from heat. However, Sager is a disreputable brand, at least from my experience with their customer service/support, and I won’t be buying another one. But HP? I expect a LOT more from them. Not sure if I’ll be buying another from them. And for that matter, I’m wondering if laptop heat in general leaves too much to be desired. Of course, what do you do if you need portability. Haul your tower around?
In my estimation, the laptop company that can create high performance and manage heat…not just acceptably but exceptionally, will have a path beaten to their door.
Hope you get your problem solved…unfortunately this is as much as I can offer.
