Hello

I've got a Springfield Model 87A .22 caliber rifle which will shoot .22 long
rifle, long and shorts. It was passed down to me through a relative. Have
looked on the Springfield Armory web site but could not look up any info.
Does anyone know the dates this gun was manufactured? Thanks

WM

WM;

If there is no serial number on the gun it was made before 1968. It
was NOT made by Springfield Armory in IL. It was made by Savage arms
in MA. I bought one in the mide 60s.

This is a tube-feed semi-auto right?
I have one at home.
Seems to me they were made from 1947 on.
I have more info at home and will post later.
The man I bought mine from told me he's had the gun for about 50 yrs.
He got the gun when he was a teenager and was about to turn 70.

Mine is similar to this one......but has cooling fins notched into the
receiver.

Well according to my Gun Digest book of "Modern Gun Values"
It's a Stevens marketed as a Springfield 87 from 1938 to 1948.
Then the trade name was dropped and it continued to be sold as
the Stevens model 87 until discontinued in 1976.

Yes mine has the cooling fins notched into the receiver. And mine looks
almost exactly like the one from the web site you posted. It has a tubular
magazine too. Thanks for the info guys!
