Hello NETWS Members and students/recent grads,
I'm Mel Nenneman, wildlife biologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service at Valentine NWR in north-central Nebraska. I've been a member of NETWS since moving to the state in 2002, have served as chapter president, and am currently serving as treasurer for
the Central Mountains and Plains Section of TWS. Valentine NWR is looking for a candidate to work at the refuge for a 6-month position, filled through the Student Conservation Association. The primary responsibilities of the position are working to control
invasive species on the refuge, with a focus on eastern red cedar and other trees. Candidate will use a combination of hand tools (saws, loppers) to control cedars. Herbicide application may be used to check other invasive species occurring on the refuge.
Work will include working in ArcPro, ArcGis Online, and Field Maps to document locations and treatments. Other duties will include assisting in biological surveys and refuge maintenance projects. Link to the job on the SCA website -
