Commemorating the June 4th Massacre, More Than 100 People Spoke Out In Front of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, Criticizing the CCP as the Enemy of
the Chinese People
2025-06-01 08:55
-- Reporter Chen Xiwen, United Daily News
Live Report from Washington DC
On May 31st, the Independent Federation of the Chinese Students and Scholars and other civil groups held a memorial commemoration for the 36th anniversary of
the June 4th Tiananmen Massacre in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C. More than 100 people attended the event, holding high banners and
demanding that the Chinese government respond to the June 4th Tiananmen Massacre and also demanding to promote democratization in China, saying that the
biggest enemy of the Chinese people is the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
LI Hengqing, one of the leaders of the student movement in 1989, said that this was the largest June 4th memorial action he had seen in Washington, DC.
As June 4th approached, civil groups such as the Independent Federation of the Chinese Students and Scholars and the Democratic Party of China, etc. called
for a memorial commemoration for the June 4th Tiananmen Massacre in front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC. on May 31st. About 150 people
attended the event, holding high banners such as "Revenge for the Chinese People" and "The CCP is the Biggest Enemy of the Chinese People".
The crowd first marched in front of the Chinese Embassy, then a requiem was played before the event to mourn the victims of the June 4th Tiananmen Massacre;
a recording of Zhang Xianling, one of the initiators of the "Tiananmen Mothers", was also played on the scene, reading out the contents of this year's open
letter.
Zhang Xianling, 88 years old, said that the current Chinese government has the responsibility to respond to and deal with the June 4th Massacre, and must
give a clear explanation to the families of the victims and the disabled. She once again proposed three demands: to publish the truth about June 4th,
publish the list of victims, publicly apologize to the families of the victims, and formulate a compensation bill; and investigate the criminal
responsibility of those responsible in accordance with the law.
Wei Jingsheng, chairman of the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition, said that every year at this time they come to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed
for democracy and freedom, and that such commemoration also encourages fellow comrades who fight on for the ideal of freedom.
Li Hengqing said that this should be the largest commemoration of the June 4th Tiananmen Massacre in the Greater Washington DC area, "I am very excited
today"; he said that only when the people are united can they be powerful. He pointed out that it was because back then tens of millions of people
participated in that movement that made the CCP felt that their regime was in danger.
The weather was bad on the day of the commemoration. Not only did it rain heavily in the afternoon, but there was also a strong wind. However,
the people on the scene did not retreat and still participated in the event in the rain.
