Talking About China's Politics Next Year at the Winter Solstice -- There Will be Drama in the Chaos
-- Wei Jingsheng

In ancient times in China, the unified weights and measures were measured in the trading companies in the suburbs of the capital every winter solstice, where the standard was the physical gavel in the hands of the county magistrate, which had a fixed weight and length.  At the temperature of the winter solstice, the weight of one Chinese liter of water was one Chinese pound, which was more than 3,000 years earlier than the modern weights and measures invented by Europeans and more than 1,000 years earlier than Emperor Qin Shihuang of the Qin Dynasty.  Ancient politics was not that complicated.  This weight and measure represented authority and the legitimacy of politics -- credibility and trust.

The current politics of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) lacks this legitimacy.  It has no credibility and cannot be trusted.  All policies are like a pulling drawer back and forward: What is said does not count, and what counts is not told.  The central government deceives the local government, and the local government deceives the people.  Small officials deceive big officials, and big officials deceive the emperor.  The media and statistics are the biggest liars in the world.  How long can this kind of politics be maintained?  It will gradually move towards chaos.  Now it has already reached a peak of chaos, with a rebellion or a coup about to happen that has been predicted by everyone.

So what is the rule of law that everyone often talks about?  It is authority.  What is authority?  It is credibility.  If politics has no credibility and no rule of law, where does authority come from?  The theory of the Communist Party is that violent oppression is the most practical, and that power comes from the barrel of a gun.  However, even violent institutions must also have credibility and rules to be managed.  A violent institution without credibility and rule of law will inevitably fall into civil strife.  You can kill others, and others can also kill you.  Even the emperor is not a god, and there is no way to stop the backlash of violent institutions.

Xi Jinping has now reached this point.  Some time ago, there were rumors on the Internet that there had been a military coup, which frightened Xi Jinping so much that he dared not leave Beijing and did not dare to visit abroad for several months.  Recently, he has been traveling to Russia and South America.  It seems that he wants to prove that the rumors in the previous period have been broken, but in fact, it is not the case.  It only shows that he has reached a compromise with the top military officials and stabilized his backyard, so he dares to go out to visit and satisfy his vanity.  Everything else is a rumor.

Just look at how chaotic it has been.  He arrested several defense ministers and swept through the Rocket Force and other forces of Zhang Youxia (head of the Chinese military).  It is said that Zhang Youxia was forced to turn to the forces that secretly opposed Xi.  This is what the overseas media reminded Secretary-General Xi.  Under such circumstances, Xi Jinping dares not take the risk of visiting abroad.  How many dictators were overthrown when they were overseas?  This possibility cannot be ruled out.

What to do?  Compromise when you should.  After all, saving your life is more important than being arrogant.  Fortunately, Zhang Youxia and Secretary-General Xi are childhood friends, so it is easier to ease the relationship.  But you have to pay a price.  Zhang Youxia also wants to take revenge, so you have to take down some cruel official in exchange.  Just like Mao Zedong abandoned Gao Gang in the 1950s and compromised with Liu Shaoqi and Zhou Enlai's group, this time Miao Hua played the role of Gao Gang.

So is it stable?  It seems not.  If the power of others expands, can the emperor be assured?  Can Secretary-General Xi be assured?  Of course not, so the commander-in-chief of the army and other commanders were also arrested.  Over and over again, the situation gradually gets out of control.  The loss of control in all dynasties started from within the ruling class.  The rebellion of the common people was often just a fuse, and it never needs the majority that the elites like to talk about.

If we talk about the majority, the majority is the people's will.  When the Gang of Four was overthrown (in 1976), it was based on the majority of people's hearts.  Since ancient times, when has there been a rebellion with the participation of the majority of people?  This is a false proposition, which is helping Xi Jinping to scare the Chinese people.  Of course, most people will sweep the snow only in front of their own doorsteps and not care about the frost on other people's roofs.  But when the turmoil starts, the officialdom loses its authority, and then it will be the majority.

So there is no need to consider the nonsense of scholars to overthrow tyrants and incompetents.  Just like what netizens like to say now: Just do it, shout when you see injustice on the road, which is the tradition of our Chinese culture.  Looking ahead and behind, hesitating, this is another tradition of corrupt scholars.  So as the old saying goes: The scholars' rebellion will not succeed in ten years.  Not even ten years, it has never succeeded.

Without incompetent and tyrannical leaders, people will have the possibility of living a good life in the future.  No matter who is in power, it is better than the current situation where the people are living in misery and the officials are living in constant fear.  This is not a life for human beings.  According to the development trend of the CCP's internal turmoil, there will be drama next year.
