Is the Taiwan Issue the Core Interest of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)?
-- Wei Jingsheng
It is not one or two days since China's air force and navy have been making trouble in the Taiwan Strait. Recently, they have also been making trouble
in the South China Sea and the Philippines. According to media reports, Xi Jinping recently issued instructions to prepare for war and even mobilized
reserve soldiers to create a tense atmosphere. These are the "core interests" they always talk about. The international community is so scared
that they dare not admit the fact that the Republic of China in Taiwan is an independent sovereign country. Is the so-called core interest really
something like this?
For the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), what is their core interest? Everyone can see clearly that it is to maintain their one-party dictatorship, and
to maintain their power to oppress and exploit the Chinese people. All other interests are secondary interests, or even dispensable. If in the
early days, the government in Taiwan still wanted to counterattack Mainland China and threaten the one-party dictatorship of the CCP, then the Taiwan issue
could be considered as a major external threat and could be considered a major interest for the CCP.
But now, or for a long time, the government of the Republic of China has long given up the purpose of counterattacking Mainland China and no longer mentions
the nonsense that "the Chinese and the thieves cannot coexist". Even the so-called sovereignty dispute is no longer a core interest bottom line.
What does it have to do with the CCP when they develop their own economy and diplomacy in Taiwan? The CCP is just looking for trouble and wants the
world to be in chaos.
But the CCP is indeed crying and shouting that Taiwan is their core interest, and they talk about "liberating" Taiwan and "reunifying with the motherland"
every day. So we have to take a serious look at why this is the case. Moreover, the CCP has fought North Korea, India, and Vietnam for decades,
but they have never taken action to resolve this "core interest", as it doesn't seem to be an important bottom line.
Then why do they talk about this every day? That is because fooling the Chinese people to incite hatred and divert people's attention is a method that
is conducive to maintaining the one-party dictatorship. The head of the German Nazis told the truth in the court: If you create some terrible enemies
for the people, they will obey your baton obediently. This is like a lie told a thousand times becoming the truth, which is a means for the autocratic
rulers to manipulate the people.
In addition to fooling the people in China, fooling and scaring the international community is another important function by the CCP. No country wants
to cause trouble for itself because of other people's family affairs. "The Republic of China is also China" is a very vague concept. The two
Germanys and the two Vietnams have been unified. No one knows when the two Chinas will be unified. It is common cautious mentality not to meddle
in other people's family affairs and not to cause trouble for oneself. Especially because Mainland China is a big country, this cautious mentality has
formed a very effective deterrent effect, forcing the international community not to admit the reality.
However, this fear of admitting reality cannot calm things down. Instead, it is lurking with huge crises that may break out at any time and spread to
neighboring countries and even the world. Especially because the Taiwan Strait is the most important sea route, its security is related to the economy
and politics of many neighboring countries, even the economy and politics of the world. Therefore, the United States, Japan, South Korea, and even
Australia are very concerned about the security of the Taiwan Strait. This is the reason why they have formed an alliance in this regard.
Many people think that the CCP dare not launch a war in the Taiwan Strait based on their own cognition. But this is just their cognition, not the
cognition of the CCP, let alone the need of the CCP. The CCP has launched several wars in history when it encountered serious problems at home thus it
had difficulty in surviving. Starting a war, even without a reason, is a simple and easy way for the CCP to solve problems.
Now China is facing economic problems only second to "the three difficult years" (a euphemism for the Great Chinese Famine in China, which occurred from 1958
to 1962), and Xi Jinping's clique is facing a political crisis similar to that of Mao Zedong's late years. In this situation, and as Xi Jinping is a
dictator who is not ready to give up power, how will he solve the various crises he faces? His ability and way of thinking determine the danger for him
to start a war. Everyone, including the international community, must not take a change, must not make the mistake of judging others as themselves, and
must not pin hopes on the rationality of Xi Jinping.
