Trump vs. Xi Jinping's Trade War Situation
-- Wei Jingsheng
Recently, there has been too much news about Trump in the United States, so no one has paid attention to how Comrade Xi Jinping in China responded to the
trade war; or who benefits from the trade war situation. However, Xi's response is related to the interests of the Chinese people. How to deal
with it is directly related to the lives of the Chinese people, and it is important to pay attention.
Most economists, including Chinese economists, think that the main reason for China's economic downturn is insufficient domestic consumption. To put it
bluntly, the Chinese people have no money to buy things, and the overproduction in China has to find a way out through foreign trade. If the foreign
trade market is blocked, an economic crisis will occur in China.
What is an economic crisis? It means that when a large number of goods cannot be sold after production, and wealth or value stops outside the economic
cycle. The economy is forced to shrink, and the working class falls into unemployment and poverty. This is an economic crisis that has happened
before. Now Xi Jinping's economic policy is accelerating the creation of this economic crisis, just so that the officials and businessmen who control
capital in China can earn excess profits.
Now that Trump has come to power, it is clear that he wants to start a trade war with China, the country with the largest trade deficit. Trump has
adopted a cautious attitude towards this biggest trade war, which can affect the world economy, and he has given Xi Jinping an opportunity to adjust the
economy in China. At present, only a 10% tariff has been imposed on the basis of past tariffs – he is waiting for Xi Jinping to automatically adjust
the economic policy.
However, Xi Jinping not only did not change the economic policy of plundering excess profits, not only did he not start to expand domestic consumption in
China, but instead adopted a counter-tariff policy by claiming retaliatory measures. You go to other people's markets to make money and sell products,
what can you use to retaliate against them? It is you who survive on their markets, not they who survive on yours. Once high tariffs are imposed,
China's cheap goods will be forced to reduce prices, or even lose money in an effort just to sell.
If the surplus goods cannot be exported or cannot make money, while China's own market cannot accommodate these goods, then an economic crisis will
come. The economic scale in China will shrink further, a large number of workers will further lose their jobs, and the lives of ordinary Chinese will
become more difficult. So now the Chinese upper class of officials and businessmen are transferring assets and fleeing, and no one is considering how
the country and the people will live next, leaving the disaster for the average Chinese to bear.
So in this Sino-US trade war, Trump can be said to have a sure win, while Xi Jinping has no countermeasures. Xi must take a compromising and
coordinating stance and strive to ease the trade war with the USA. Only by using the time of easing to expand domestic consumption can an economic
crisis be avoided and the economy gotten back on track in China.
The United States has also experienced serious economic crisis. But it has a democratic system. The government must consider issues for the
people and the country, and will not think of running away from the USA to live. They have invented many ways to boost the consumer market. China
can learn from their successful experiences and invent new ways based on its own national conditions. The direction is to expand domestic consumption
and increase people's income.
There are many smart people in China, and the income of Chinese people is very low. Thus there is a lot of room in this regard. Why can't the
problem be solved? It involves the issue of the political system. If China has a system that is responsible to the people, this problem is
actually very easy to solve. But China's political system is only responsible to the upper echelons of officials and businessmen, not to the people, so
of course there is no need to consider the average Chinese.
So China's problem is not just an economic problem, it is first of all a political problem. Many Chinese think that politics has nothing to do with
them, that it is the business of officials. In fact, it is wrong -- this is directly related to the lives of you ordinary people. Even if you
don't care about politics, politics will care about you. The bureaucratic capitalists, which are a combination of officials and businessmen in China,
have monopolized politics and thus wealth in China. Now they have also monopolized the wealth that you deserve, and are moving this wealth to a safe
zone to enjoy by themselves secretly, laughing at you as fools. Wake up, the well-off life that you got from exports in the past years is disappearing,
and disaster is coming to you.
