Hi TVR folks,

TVR was always a good idea, so the NewGov Foundation and the League of Technical Voters will add TVR hashtags to its tag mapping service at http://SNAPvote14.com. SNAP the vote means to tag and map a photo from your polling place on Election Day, so it’s natural extension to support TVR data.

TVR Tweets will appear on the map if Twitter knows the location or a zip code is tagged, like #10017. The map shows congressional districts so activists can track what issues are important to each Rep's constituents, particularly interesting if the representative is on an important committee. Even without location, the data will appear at https://newgov.us/smartvote/data and downloadable from https://newgov.us/smartvote/data/export.csv. Micah Sifry listed three TVR tags below: #voterport, #NYCvotes and #ivoted. What other tags might be useful?

SNAPvote14.com is tracking 9 issue tags: #FEMvote14, #STEMvote14, #IMMvote14, #FAIRvote14, #NETvote14, #VETvote14, #SPYvote14, #HOTvote14, DEBTvote14. Each issue also has a Twitter account, like @femvote14 and domain, like http://FEMvote14.com. We also track helper tags: #PLEDGEvote14, zip codes with #zip***** &  #*****, and  #SNAPvote14. We’ll retain the data and keep tracking tags after the election, to help activists ‘flood the zone’ of a politician.

TVR-tagged tweets will be mapped without #***vote14 tags, but if you support an issue, add your voice.

Thanks to our limited number of tags, we process the Twitter firehose in real time. Some interesting netroots experiments are possible. We’ve considered formalizing a Vote Test Day and a Vote Test Week:

  • Vote Test Day & Week would start 10/28 at 12:01 am ET, exactly 7 days before Dixville Notch NH polls open.
  • Fans of democracy could tweet, RT, DM a tag* like #PLEDGEvote14 or #votetestday.
  • Candidates’ and other tags will be captured as long as any tracked tag is present.
  • Flash mobbers might Hyperlapse the route from home to their polling place, tagged with #HYPERvote14.
  • Friends might get 2010 no-shows to turn out who don’t even hear the ads any more.
  • Which issue tags are trending most?
  • Vote Test Day would end 10/26 at 5:00 am ET, exactly 7 days before polls close in Guam, ending Vote Test Week.
  • Is there a taxonomy for describing polling place problems? Any ideas for voting problem tags?
  • How about tags like #CUPPAvote14 + #SWEETvote14, for folks bringing snacks to voters on line.
    • Cupcakes give off-year no-shows a community-oriented reason to get out and vote.
    • “We’re snackers, not slackers: Community service makes voting interesting.

We’ll track the relative number of #***vote14 issue tags during the week before the election and produce media-friendly charts & graphs.

Who might be interested in reviving TVR for 2012, and if so, what do you think could make it better?

Hashtags
Add the hashtag #votereport to a Tweet about your experience at your polling place; those reports will be aggregated at TwitterVoteReport.com. In New York City, use #NYCvotes.

And after you cast your votes tomorrow, use the hashtag #ivoted to catch people's attention and remind them to participate in shaping the future of this country.
