Twitter.com seems to be down, as as most third party site using the
api as far as I can tell, but IM seems to be still up because I'm
getting messages through there.

I guess you already know about this, just flagging it anyway.

I'm starting to get the feeling its got something to do with the proxy
here at work... since the message I'm getting through IM (I'm tracking
'hahlo') indicate that people are using it right now and its working.
Although istwitterdown.com tells me twitter IS down, as does
downforeveryoneorjustme.com (this also tells me hahlo is up)

Please God, I hope that they haven't blocked twitter here... I can't
get to twiter.com, hahlo.com, pockettweets.com, itweet.net.

Dean,

Mostly down for me here too from my house in Austin. I've
occasionally gotten the http://twitter.com/ homepage to load but there
are very few tweets for the past hour in my recents. Mostly it just
sits and doesn't load anything. Twitterific is showing an HTTP 500
response as the top most "message".

That's how things look from this end.

I can confirm that we have been down for some time due to a massive
unexpected cache invalidation. We're working to bring the site back
up, although some features will be limited until caches have
repopulated.

Thanks Alex,

I just realised that the tweets coming through IM are the same ones I
read a few hours ago, which now makes sense.

Is one of those features the API?

We were intentionally returning 304s for a brief period, but the API
should now be back to typical behavior.
