+ char missing from api updates

i'm using the api to post updates. the plus (+) char is not
displayed.. there's a blank ( ) instead.

sample tweet: http://twitter.com/startech/statuses/947811571
there's no + sign with the percent values in parenthesis.

pls help.

Are you URL-encoding the text before sending it? "+" is "%2B", space is "+".

Are you properly URL encoding the + (and, for that matter, other characters)?
Otherwise, it will be interpreted as a blank.
